Summary
Our client, a leading commercial flooring contractor based in San Diego, is seeking an experienced Project Engineer . This role is an exciting opportunity for a construction professional with a strong background in project coordination and management to support flooring projects from pre-construction through completion. You’ll work out of their San Diego headquarters, collaborating with general contractors, end users, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are executed successfully.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct job site visits to assess project scope, take measurements, and identify logistical challenges.
Assist with take-offs and preparation of detailed estimates for labor, materials, and preparation requirements.
Support project managers in overseeing projects from contract award to completion.
Help manage schedules, budgets, and quality control for flooring installations.
Coordinate with in-house installation teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and execution.
Perform regular site visits to verify progress, document field issues, and support resolution efforts.
Track and maintain job costing, billing, and change orders throughout the project lifecycle.
Assist in identifying risks and implementing corrective actions or process improvements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience in commercial construction project engineering or project coordination, preferably within the flooring or finishes industry (1–5 years preferred).
Strong organizational and project planning skills.
Ability to read plans / specs and utilize digital take-off and estimating tools.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
