Job Details

  • Performs technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices according to accepted standards.
  • Provides maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization of specialty instrumentation.
  • Follows aseptic technique and identifies contamination or breaks in aseptic technique, implementing corrective actions.
  • Performs surgical counts and follows policies for incorrect counts, reporting discrepancies.
  • Establishes and maintains sterile field and ensures team maintains sterile environment independently.
  • Labels drugs and solutions; monitors quantities used.
  • Assists in identification, preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
  • Participates in planning and setup of instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes for optimal accessibility during procedures.
  • Assists surgeon with understanding patient anatomy and abnormalities affecting surgery.
  • Assists team members in placing and positioning patient on table.
  • Reviews physician preference lists and checks supplies and instruments for each procedure.
  • Demonstrates appropriate and correct case preparation.
  • Assists in picking cases and planning instrument needs.
  • Corrects deficiencies at case level.
  • Modifies scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information and communicates with surgical team.
  • Responds to surgical emergencies and follows hospital emergency management plans.
  • Inventories, receives, and stores supplies under Surgical Services leadership.
  • Serves as role model and mentor for new hires, trainees, and peers, participating in teaching and evaluation.
  • Identifies and reports defective instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assists with restocking operating / procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
  • Assists registered nurse during intraoperative nursing practice implementation.
  • Participates in data collection for research projects under RN direction.
  • Operates complex equipment and resources in operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Performs daily cleaning, stocking, verification of emergency carts and tray updates.
  • Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of various vascular standard OR cases and Hybrid vascular cases including EVAR and TCAR.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, physicians, family members, and staff.
  • Ability to perform mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and problem-solving.
  • Schedule Information

  • Contract length is 13 weeks.

  • Additional Details

  • Preferred : One (1) year experience as a Surgical Technician with CVOR experience.
  • Strongly preferred experience in Cardiac cases including Coronary Artery Bypass, Aortic and Mitral Valve, minimally invasive heart valve surgery, ECMO, Balloon Pump insertion, circulatory arrest, aortic dissection, lead placement and removal, TAVR, Impella placement.
  • Familiarity with various types of wire and catheters used for interventional cases.
