LocumJobsOnline is working with Wellhart, LLC to find a qualified Pathology MD in Dixon, Illinois, 61021!

About The Position

We are seeking a board-certified Pathologist for an 8-day locum tenens assignment in Illinois beginning Nov 24, 2025. This role features day shifts from 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM, no overtime, and includes night call and possible 24-hour call coverage. The ideal candidate will independently manage a diverse caseload and collaborate with clinicians to ensure high-quality diagnostic services.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Review and sign out pathology cases, ensuring accurate and timely diagnoses
  • Perform grossing on surgical specimens with assistance from histotechs for small biopsies, slide preparation, and special stains
  • Answer phone calls from clinicians regarding pathology-related questions and concerns
  • Review and interpret peripheral blood smears as needed
  • Address blood bank issues, including transfusion reactions and related comments
  • Perform cellular adequacy checks for Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) and CT-guided biopsies
  • Provide night call coverage and respond to urgent cases as required
  • Additional Information

  • Board Certification in Pathology required
  • Strong experience in grossing, cytology, and general pathology case review essential
  • Must hold an active Illinois medical license
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage a caseload
  • Excellent communication skills for clinician interaction
  • Experience with Cerner EMR system preferred
