Job Title : Responsible AI Policy Lead Location : Richmond, VA (Hybrid) Reports To : Manager – Governance and Compliance Department : Data Factory, Chief Technology Office Job Type : Full-Time, Individual Contributor, Contract Compensation : 90-130 / hr Position Summary : ALTA IT is seeking a passionate and principled Responsible AI Policy Lead to join our client’s newly formed Data Factory team. This pivotal role will be part of the Chief Technology Office and report directly to the Manager of Governance and Compliance. The Responsible AI Policy Lead will ensure that the development and deployment of AI capabilities across the enterprise adhere to Responsible AI Framework and align with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework. This role requires a highly engaged and collaborative professional who can work across business units, cybersecurity, and technology teams to embed ethical, transparent, and accountable AI practices into the organization’s digital transformation journey. Key Responsibilities : Policy Leadership Develop, maintain, and evolve Responsible AI Policy and associated governance artifacts. Ensure alignment with industry standards and regulatory frameworks, including the NIST AI Risk Management Framework. Governance & Oversight Collaborate with the Governance and Compliance team to integrate Responsible AI principles into broader data governance practices. Establish and monitor controls to ensure AI systems are fair, explainable, secure, and privacy-preserving. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with business units, cybersecurity, legal, privacy, and technology teams to assess AI use cases and ensure compliance with Responsible AI standards. Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor on ethical AI practices across the enterprise. Risk Management Identify and assess risks associated with AI models and systems, including bias, transparency, and accountability risks. Support the development of risk mitigation strategies and incident response protocols for AI systems. Training & Enablement Lead awareness and training initiatives to promote understanding and adoption of Responsible AI principles. Develop guidance and tools to support teams in implementing ethical AI practices. Qualifications : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Ethics, Law, Computer Science, Public Policy, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in AI governance, data ethics, compliance, or related roles. Strong understanding of AI / ML technologies and their societal and organizational impacts. Familiarity with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and other relevant standards (e.g., OECD AI Principles, EU AI Act). Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Preferred Skills : Experience in the energy or utilities sector. Certification in AI ethics, compliance, or risk management. Experience working in cross-functional teams and matrixed organizations. Knowledge of AI auditing tools and model interpretability techniques.
