The Virginian-Pilot / Daily Press, a leading multi-platform news organization with a growing audience, is seeking a digitally savvy Sports Writer to deliver compelling content across various beats, including high school, college, and professional sports, as well as outdoor recreation. Join our passionate team and cover a diverse and dynamic region, from major cities and military bases to sprawling suburbs and rural landscapes.

What you will do :

Deliver breaking news and write engaging features on a variety of sports beats

Cultivate strong sources and build relationships within the Hampton Roads sports community

Cover a wide range of sports, from professional and college to high school and recreational activities

Produce diverse content, including quick hits, breaking news, in-depth features, photos, videos, social media posts, and print stories

Collaborate with fellow reporters, photographers, and editors in a fast-paced environment

Contribute to the growth and engagement of our high school sports site, 757Teamz.com , and other social media platforms

What you will bring :

Strong news judgment and a commitment to accuracy

The ability to identify and write about key trends and topics in the sports world

A passion for sports and an understanding of the diverse Hampton Roads sports scene

Proficiency in creating various content formats, including written articles, photos, and videos

Digital fluency and experience with social media platforms

A college degree and preferably at least two years of experience in daily journalism

Validdriver’s license and reliable transportation required
