Essential Responsibilities:

  • Establish a shared vision across the company for a portfolio of products, or platform products enabling development & scalability, with a deliberate and cohesive strategy.
  • Leads product strategy development, and develops a clear, executable view of the product portfolio strategy with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Shapes the architectural roadmap and balances innovative design and technical implementation, while balancing regulatory requirements, time-to-market, meeting customer needs and product profitability.
  • Champions the customer experience and prioritizes customer needs in product requirements and decision making.
  • Defines and uses metrics that inform the success of products including usability studies, research and market analysis.
  • Standardizes workstreams to include analytics, customer discovery, market research and competitive analysis to drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Responsible for product portfolio profitability, including budgetary decisions.
  • Leads operational mechanisms that drive execution and accountability including Product Reviews, Operating Reviews, and Business Reviews. Interfaces with senior leadership as needed.
  • Maximizes efficiency in a constantly evolving environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are the standard.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 12+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years of experience leading others

  • Define and lead PayPal’s global Developer Platform and Developer Experience strategy, shaping how millions of developers discover, onboard, integrate, and scale with PayPal

  • Own the vision and execution of a unified developer platform, reducing friction across the developer journey while enabling scale, extensibility, and consistency across PayPal products

  • Build and lead the Developer Platform & DevEx product organization, including hiring, mentoring, and developing senior and technical product managers

  • Partner closely with Engineering, Developer Relations, Marketing, and other product teams to ensure developer feedback directly informs platform design, prioritization, and execution

  • Define and drive a holistic developer experience strategy across APIs, SDKs, documentation, tooling, CLI, MCP, and emerging AI-assisted developer workflows

  • Develop and execute a cohesive DevEx roadmap that measurably improves developer onboarding, integration time, time-to-first-transaction, and overall developer satisfaction

  • Support the diverse needs of developers across businesses of all sizes, with a focus on simplifying integrations and accelerating developer productivity

  • Operate effectively in a highly matrixed, multi-product environment to drive alignment, execution, and transformation across platform initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience building and leading platform or infrastructure-adjacent product organizations within large-scale, developer-centric technology companies

  • Deep technical fluency in platform architecture, including APIs, SDKs, and developer tooling, with the ability to engage as a peer with senior engineering leaders and influence architectural decisions

  • Proven experience driving platform strategy at significant scale, balancing developer experience, reliability, performance, security, and extensibility

  • Strong judgment in platform and systems trade-offs, including versioning, backward compatibility, governance models, and long-term maintainability of developer-facing interfaces

  • Demonstrated leadership in improving developer experience, including onboarding, integration quality, and overall developer productivity

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience influencing senior technical and executive stakeholders in complex, ambiguous environments

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree or equivalent practical experience preferred

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

Primary Location | Pay Range:

San Jose, California | ($242,000.00 - $359,150.00 Annually)

Additional Location(s) | Pay Range:

Chicago, Illinois | ($220,000.00 - $326,700.00 Annually) Austin, Texas | ($220,000.00 - $326,700.00 Annually) Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
