Reinsurance Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Reinsurance Accountant to join our Accounting & Finance team. This role plays a critical part in supporting our growth-focused reinsurance division, working closely with the Reinsurance Accounting Team Leader to ensure the accurate accounting and administration of reinsurance agreements. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of reinsurance agreements, including premium calculations, claims recoverable, and allowances, while ensuring compliance with treaty terms. This role requires collaboration with reinsurers, clients, finance staff, auditors, and internal teams to ensure the proper execution of reinsurance transactions. The Reinsurance Accountant will also play a key role in supporting financial reporting, ensuring data accuracy, and managing communications with stakeholders.

Your Impact :

  • Administer new and existing reinsurance agreements in line with treaty parameters, ensuring proper accounting treatment for all reinsurance transactions.
  • Prepare, record, and reconcile journal entries for reinsurance activity, ensuring accuracy and compliance with treaty terms; Maintain spreadsheets tracking treaty activity, including claims fund tracking and financial reporting.
  • Perform timely and accurate calculations, recording, reporting, and billing in accordance with reinsurance agreements; Identify and resolve reconciliation issues related to reinsurance activities, coordinating corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage client, reinsurer, and internal stakeholder communications, including collaboration with departments such as claims, actuarial, and finance.
  • Ensure the company meets all reinsurance agreement terms through proactive communication and oversight.
  • Support audits by preparing relevant financial documentation and responding to audit queries; Assist the Reinsurance Accounting Supervisor in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of reinsurance accounting operations.

Successful Candidate Will Have :

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field; CPA or master's degree is a plus; Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within the insurance or reinsurance industry; Strong proficiency in Excel and experience using accounting software.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a keen attention to detail; Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; Self-starter with a professional, assertive approach to problem-solving.
  • Additional Information :

    Travel may be required for training, meetings, and other collaborative activities, with specific travel expectations communicated during the interview process.

    At Risk Strategies Company, base pay is one part of our total compensation package, which also includes a comprehensive suite of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings, The total compensation for a position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. The expected base pay range for this position is between $55,000.00 - $65,000.00. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including geographical location, education, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
