The Sheriff-Coroner/Technology Division consists of approximately 150 personnel organized in six areas that specialize in specific operational and technical units, including Administration/Operations, Special Projects, Radio Communications, Applications, Infrastructure, and Security. The Division provides centralized countywide coordinated communications systems for all local public safety agencies and is responsible for all Information Technology operations across the entire Sheriff's Department.
The Sr. IT Network Engineer, under general direction, will design, implement, maintain and train others on the daily support of the Orange County Sheriff Department's data and network infrastructure. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the design, installation, implementation and documentation of LAN, WAN, and WLAN equipment, routers, switches, network appliances, VPNs, firewalls, and VOIP telecommunication systems. The incumbent will ensure acceptable uptime and performance of the network infrastructure, plan performance improvements, and prevent security risks and threats.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in computer science or in a related field and have 3-5 years of experience working with high performance platforms, troubleshooting and reporting of systems, and managing/maintaining/designing application network infrastructures.
