Security And Safety Officer
Performs work functions associated with maintaining security and safety, crowd control, customer service, and other event-related activities as assigned at the Charlotte Sports Park. Work requires an understanding of security operations, the ability to provide exceptional customer service, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a daily operational setting. Work may be performed during the day, evenings, weekends, and / or holidays and is performed in accordance with established procedures, but specific instructions may be given on unusual situations. Essential Responsibilities : - Works cooperatively with contractual partners and internal County departments to provide security and customer service for the Charlotte Sports Park, primarily during Spring Training. - Provides a high level of customer service to all patrons and communicates regularly with the general public; handles customer questions, complaints, and suggestions. - Patrols assigned areas to ensure that safety is paramount to the success of the operation. - Performs bag checks and confiscates all prohibited items upon entrance into the facility. - Provides crowd control in assigned areas of the facility; controls and ensures safe access and egress to and from restricted areas. - Assists in identifying and implementing security procedures that address vehicular access to emergency areas. - Communicates via assigned radios regarding the occurrence of any incident, accident, or potential situation of interest. - Responds to and resolves requests for assistance and / or information from patrons. - On occasion, may be required to physically escort unruly patrons out of or away from assigned facility. - Complies with all established operational policies and procedures. - Implements daily assignments and deployment instructions from supervisory personnel. - Assists in the implementation of the Emergency Management Plan, upon direction by supervisory personnel. - Attends all mandatory training sessions to discuss operational policies and procedures related to Spring Training. - Prepares and receives a variety of forms, logs, incident / accident reports, requests, records, reports, correspondence and other documents associated with daily responsibilities of the position; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, maintains and / or takes other action as appropriate.
Minimum Education and Experience : High school diploma, Six (6) months of experience in security operations, special events, recreation, or related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience. Licenses and / or Certificates : None.
Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to facility and grounds admission, events, operating hours, emergency and operating procedures. Knowledge of the physical location and lay-out of facilities within the grounds and buildings patrolled. Skill in detecting problems and unsafe situations and ability to report information to appropriate personnel. Ability to provide fan-friendly customer service to all park patrons inclusive of internal partners, guests, and sponsors. Ability to demonstrate professional behavior in the presence of famous or high profile individuals. Ability to act in emergency situations and to notify assigned personnel of safety and emergency issues in a timely manner. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting operational rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns with tact and courtesy. Ability to physically escort unruly fans out of the facility if and when required. Ability to work late nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to stand for extended periods of time, possibly during inclement, hot or cold weather. Ability to follow written and oral instructions; good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly via a two-way radio or other wireless device as assigned. Ability to accurately maintain basic records and reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including the ability to effectively work as part of a team or work unit.
Work is primarily performed outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather, irate customers, extreme noise, heights and / or dust. Some risk related to physical and / or mental health and safety associated with this position. Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, and depth perception. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
