Strategic Engagement Manager (MONS)
The Agency You'll Join : The New York City Mayor's Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. Previously, Mayor Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer, state senator, and Brooklyn borough president. The Adams' administration is leading the fight to serve the people of the greatest city in the world, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, working to make New York City's economy stronger, reducing inequality, improving public safety, and making the city more affordable that meets the needs of all New Yorkers. We value leadership, transparency, fairness, and efficiency as we actively seek diverse talents from various sectors to join our team.
The Team You'll Work With : New York City nonprofits engage millions of residents each year in critical programs, from arts and culture to community building to housing, and the sector employs nearly a fifth of all NYC workers. The City across all agencies contracts and collaborates extensively with nonprofits for a range of public services. Recognizing nonprofits' essential role in the fabric of the City, in late 2021, the City Council passed Int. 1784 to establish a Mayor's Office of Not-for-Profit Services. At the same time, the incoming Adams and Lander Administrations launched the Joint Taskforce to Get Nonprofits Paid on Time as a part of the transition process, which released an Action Memo with a set of recommendations in February 2022. The Mayor's Office of Nonprofit Services will engage with and support both New York City's nonprofit sector and City agencies that contract with nonprofit partners. Among its core functions, the Office will serve as a hub to engage and communicate critical information to nonprofits, develop and coordinate the delivery of capacity-building programs to support nonprofits to more easily contract with the City, research the health of the sector, and coordinate activities to advance the recommendations of the Joint Task Force to Get Nonprofits Paid on Time.
The Problems You'll Solve : As a part of the Mayor's Office of Nonprofit Services (MONS), under the supervision of the Deputy Director for Contracting, the Strategic Engagement Manager will play a critical role in bridging the gap between nonprofit partners and city agencies, ensuring delayed payments and contract concerns are promptly addressed and resolved. You'll refine and use systems to record, track, report on, and improve response times in accordance with a standard operating procedure while communicating empathy to the operational challenges nonprofits face. The Strategic Engagement Manager will be responsible for managing a high volume of communications and will use multiple platforms to be responsive and communicative, including email, messaging, and scheduling phone calls to triage inquiries and communicate with City agencies about solutions and progress toward resolution. Your work will require seamless collaboration across departments and stakeholders to drive efficiency and impact in nonprofit service delivery, and support nonprofits as they seek to navigate city bureaucracy while delivering critical services for New Yorkers. You will particularly have the opportunity to work closely with NYC's Chief Nonprofit Officers to resolve constituent inquiries in a timely manner and strategize on system reform that can address nonprofit pain points. You will support the Deputy Director of Contracting on scheduling, preparing for, participating, and recording follow-up items in regular meetings with Chief Nonprofit Officers, including a monthly convening, monthly check ins with individual CNOs, and bi-annual site visits to agencies that will be coordinated with the CNO. Your work may provide opportunities to work on systemic reforms that address the pain points identified by nonprofit organizations.
