Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg position requiring tele and strip-reading experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

Work on a 32-bed Med / Surg unit in an acute care hospital

Patient population includes 80% surgical and 20% oncology cases, with frequent ortho (JHACO-certified knee and hip program), urological, abdominal, Whipple, and women's surgical patients

Patient ratios are 1 : 4 on both day and night shifts

Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts from 7-7

Requires 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule and coverage for one major and one minor holiday

First to float, with required floating to sister facility and to MedSurg Tele units

Uses Cerner EMR and GE monitors, with central monitoring station tech support

No vent management required, but must titrate down Amio and Cardizem as needed for tele unit floating

Charge nurse and supervisor present on unit; day shifts have PCTs, night shifts have 1 PCT or Task RN

No in-house IV team; SWAT nurse available for difficult IV sticks

Navy scrubs are required

Dysrhythmia exam and sterile technique simulation tests are pass / fail; failure on either results in a 6-month ineligibility

Central monitoring station tech will assist with telemetry

On-call physician must be contacted as needed; 24 / 7 RT and pharmacy support available

Use of Spectralink phones attached to call light system

First-time travelers are accepted

Returning employees must not have worked at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year

Orientation includes 2 floor-specific shifts and 12 total orientation hours

Requirements

Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum of 2 years recent Med / Surg experience within the past 6 months

Tele / strip-reading experience required

Certifications required : BLS and ACLS

Must be able to titrate down Amio and Cardizem

Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of offer, with a maximum of 2 attempts

Must pass a simulation lab on day one of orientation

Must submit a current driver's license

Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility

Must provide 2 professional references as specified : one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
