Job Description
For over a century, HII has built and maintained the U.S. Navy's most powerful warships. Join us as we continue to maintain the Navy's readiness! We are seeking a Junior Outside Machinist to provide support at Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) Product Family located in San Diego, CA. This Junior Outside Machinist will be responsible for accomplishing mechanical repairs and testing onboard ships and in the shop. To include the removal, repair, overhaul, installation, alignment, troubleshooting, modifying, and testing on ship's mechanical systems and equipment.

What You Must Have
High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience. Prefer technical / professional certifications.
Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
Must be able to compete OHSA 10, CPR, low speed vehicle training (for operation of carts), and completion of PQS 301 Craftsman qualification within ninety (90) days of providing direct support.
Must be able to obtain and maintain CAC ID Base access and DoD Security Clearance.
Start date contingent upon approval of base access which is required for this position and continued employment.
May require forklift license depending on shop need - will require forklift physical.
Bonus Points For...
A current, valid DoD confidential security clearance or higher.
Recent Outside Machinist experience on USN ships.
Prefer technical / professional certifications.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where system equipment is in hard-to-reach places, requiring the need to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work in inclement weather and / or with high noise levels. Be exposed to oil, grease, dirt, dampness, noise, and vibration.
Must be able to frequently lift, carry, and help set up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasionally assist with lifting items that weigh over 50 pounds (two persons required).
Able to work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
