About the Department
Located in the heart of Atlanta at one of the America's most innovative and diverse research universities, the Georgia State University School of Public Health ( SPH ) educates practitioners and thought leaders while engaging in research and outreach that addresses urgent health challenges and promotes health for all. The Georgia State SPH offers a range of CEPH -accredited degree programs, from a bachelor's degree in public health to an MPH in six concentrations, a PhD in four concentrations and a DrPH program for professionals in the field. Our research and community engagement have been funded with nearly $13 million in external funding in 'FY 25, with areas of emphasis that include applied biostatistics and epidemiologic methodology; cancer, chronic disease epidemiology, and social determinants; infectious diseases; and tobacco, alcohol and other substance use, among others.
The Georgia State School of Public Health is one of the most diverse schools of public health in America, with 70% of students self-identifying as members of a minority group. Since 2006, over 100 international graduate students have chosen to study at the Georgia State SPH through the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, and international students currently make up 6% of the school's total enrollment. Position Description
The Department of Population Health Sciences in the School of Public Health at Georgia State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in Biostatistics. The successful candidate will begin in Fall 2026 and develop and maintain an active and productive program of research and actively engage in collaborative work with other researchers in the field. Candidates should have a record of scholarly accomplishments, including a strong publication record and history of extramural research funding, or potential for success in these areas for applicants at the Assistant rank. Candidates should also have demonstrated success with graduate-level teaching and mentoring, or relevant experience demonstrating potential for success for candidates at the Assistant rank. Teaching assignments will depend on the expertise and interests of the candidate as well as departmental priorities. The successful candidate is expected to conduct outstanding research, teach biostatistics courses primarily to graduate students in Public Health (i.e., MPH and PhD students), mentor graduate students, and contribute to service initiatives in the department, university, and profession.

Doctorate in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, Health Informatics, Analytics, Operations Research, or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience
The Department of Population Health Sciences welcomes applications from researchers across all relevant fields. The ideal candidate will hold a doctorate in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, Health Informatics, Analytics, Operations Research, or a related discipline, and demonstrate the ability to apply advanced analytic techniques to broadly defined public health and medical domains. Candidates should possess a strong methodological background, with primary consideration given to those who have an established track record in public health or medical data science research.
Candidates should be able to establish an independent research program. Potential areas of primary expertise may include, but are not limited to, large-scale data integration, structural equation modeling, infectious diseases, bioinformatics, modeling of time-intensive longitudinal data, and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI / ML) including large language models (LLMs) in public health and medicine.
In addition, candidates may contribute their expertise to collaborative research in well-established areas within the Department of Population Health Sciences, including multilevel modeling, functional data analysis, high-dimensional data analysis, machine learning, infectious disease transmission and surveillance modeling, bioinformatics, and techniques for modeling time-intensive longitudinal data.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Candidates must also demonstrate a willingness and ability to contribute to the University and the profession through service activities.
