Cloud Engineer

How will this role impact First Command?

The Cloud Engineer position is responsible for design, installation, configuration, operation, and administration of First Command’s highly available hybrid cloud environment. Working within an agile shared services team, the position enables stable infrastructure for applications and participates in maintaining repeatable processes through automation of build, deployment, and proactive monitoring activities. The candidate must be able to understand developing trends in hybrid cloud technologies and practically apply solutions to meet stated business needs. The position drives cloud technology, operations but also requires knowledge of on-premise datacenter resources. The position requires ability to make recommendations based on solid technical acumen, assist project teams as required, and provide third-tier support for issue resolution.

The Cloud Engineer has subject matter experience in two or more of the following areas : Cloud Computing, Cloud Storage, Virtual Networks, Automation / Infrastructure as Code, Secure Networking, and DevSecOps. in an Azure or AWS cloud environment.

What will the employee do in this role?

• Works with supervision to establish, monitor and maintain Azure cloud environment, systems hardware, operating systems, and related network and security infrastructure to ensure reliable operations
• Monitor Azure maintenance and outages, assess impact, and develop strategies to minimize impact
• Collaborate, consult, coordinate task level work with developers and scrum teams on compute resource needs expansion or new feature deployment. Ensure that network and system capacity projections are accurate and prevent service degradations due to lack of resources
• Builds and automates cloud infrastructure current methods, templates and automation toolsets
• Optimize network infrastructure for IaaS, SaaS, PaaS and other cloud applications
• Produce and maintain documentation for use in the installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of cloud and on-premise related infrastructure
• Research connectivity, performance and related security issues to determine root cause and implement a plan of action to resolve these issues
• Participate in design and implementation of architectural roadmaps regarding Hybrid cloud infrastructure
• Design technical infrastructure & cloud processes, integrate solutions into existing infrastructure, consult on development projects, help deploy solutions that meet business and technical requirements
• Coordinate with service providers, vendors and various First Command teams to ensure timely resolution of infrastructure related issues
• Participate in on-call rotation and be available for special duties outside normal working hours
