About the role

We’re looking for a careful, detail-oriented Masker to join our production team working on precision aerospace components and firearm parts. The Masker prepares parts for finishing operations (painting, coating, plating) by applying and removing temporary protective materials so that only specified areas receive treatment. This role is critical to meeting tight quality and safety standards in highly regulated industries.

Key responsibilities

Review work orders, engineering drawings, and masking instructions to determine areas requiring protection.

Apply masking materials (tapes, plugs, caps, films, silicone, specialty adhesives, or custom masks) to protect threads, machined surfaces, mating faces, serial numbers, or other critical features.

Prepare and clean surfaces prior to masking to ensure adhesion and correct finish; perform light surface prep (degreasing, wiping) consistent with work instructions.

Verify proper fit and placement of masks; perform dimensional or visual checks per inspection criteria.

Remove masks cleanly after finishing operations and inspect masked areas for defects, residue, or damage.

Rework or touch up as needed in coordination with finishing / quality teams.

Maintain accurate documentation of lot numbers, SKUs, batch records, and process steps per company and regulatory requirements.

Follow all safety, security, and quality procedures (including handling of hazardous materials and controlled items).

Maintain clean, organized work area and care for masking supplies and tools.

Report nonconformances, process variances, or safety issues immediately to supervisor.

Cross-train in related tasks (de-burring, packing, basic inspection) as required.

Required qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

1+ years experience in masking, finishing, paint prep, or similar in manufacturing (experience in aerospace or firearms / defense manufacturing a plus).

Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions and engineering drawings.

Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Ability to use common hand tools and masking materials; comfortable working with small, precision components.

Basic math and measuring skills; familiarity with calipers and basic inspection tools preferred.

Ability to read and interpret work orders, process sheets, and safety data sheets (SDS).

Willingness to wear PPE consistently and follow safety procedures.

Preferred qualifications

Prior experience working to AS9100 / aerospace quality standards or in a regulated defense environment.

Familiarity with torque critical features, thread protection, and protecting serialized surfaces.

Forklift or material handling certification (if role requires moving heavy fixtures).

Experience with hazardous material handling and awareness of paint / chemistry risks.

Physical demands & working conditions

Regular standing, bending, reaching, and fine motor work.

May require lifting up to 25–50 lbs occasionally; reasonable accommodations available.

Work performed in production / finish area — may include exposure to noise, solvents, and paint booths; PPE (respirators, gloves, safety glasses) required.

May be required to work overtime or shift work during production runs.

Quality & compliance

Must follow all company quality control, traceability, and security policies — especially those related to regulated defense or firearms components.

Participate in training and audits as required.
