Job Description
This is a remote position.
The Data Entry Support Specialist will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of Sunrift Adventures by handling accurate, timely, and efficient data entry and administrative support tasks that underpin our retail, rental, and inventory activities. This role ensures that the business systems are up-to-date and reflect real-world activities across sales, rentals, stock movements, and customer interactions so that both front-line staff and management can rely on the data for decision-making. Sunrift — founded in 1980 and rooted in the outdoor adventure community — carries premium outdoor gear in hiking, camping, cycling and paddling, and this role helps ensure we uphold operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately enter, update, and maintain data in company systems including inventory databases, rental logs, point-of-sale records, vendor information, and customer profiles.
Review source documentation (e.g., receipts, invoices, rental agreements, shipments) for accuracy and completeness before data entry; flag inconsistencies and liaise with relevant departments to resolve them.
Assist with reconciliation of data between systems (e.g., matching rental returns with inventory status, verifying stock levels after shipments) and generate reports of discrepancies.
Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly reports summarizing key metrics (inventory turnover, rental usage, sales volumes, outstanding entries) for management review.
Collaborate closely with retail staff, rental teams, inventory / warehouse teams, and other support staff to ensure data reflects actual operations and revisions are implemented when business processes change.
Perform data-clean-up tasks such as duplicate record removal, updating obsolete entries, maintaining proper naming conventions and documentation standards.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information including customer details and vendor information, adhering to company policies and data governance best practices.
Support ad-hoc administrative tasks as needed (e.g., scanning documents, organizing digital folders, assisting with system upgrades or user training) to ensure the back-office functions smoothly.
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in business administration, office technology, or data management is a plus.
Proven experience in a data entry, administrative support, or office operations role—ideally in a retail, rental, or inventory-driven environment.
Strong typing skills (50+ wpm preferred) and high level of accuracy with an eye for detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (or Google Sheets) and comfort learning and navigating database systems or business software.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
Reliable remote or hybrid work setup if applicable (dependable internet connection, suitable workspace) when remote support is allowed.
Good communication and interpersonal skills—able to work with cross-functional teams, ask clarifying questions, and follow up as needed.
Passion for the outdoors or familiarity with outdoor gear, rental processes or the retail lifestyle is a strong plus (aligns with Sunrift’s culture).
Benefits
Competitive salary or hourly pay (based on experience).
Employee discount on outdoor gear and apparel from Sunrift Adventures.
Flexible scheduling and potential hybrid / remote flexibility (depending on business needs).
Paid time off and eligible sick leave (for full-time or regular part-time roles) according to company policy.
Opportunities for professional development and growth into administrative, inventory, operations, or system-support roles.
A friendly and supportive work environment at one of the Upstate’s trusted outdoor outfitters — with roots in community, environmental stewardship and expert service.
Hands-on contribution to a team that helps people get outside, gear up, and explore — making your work visible and valued.
Requirements
Friendly, energetic, with strong communication and listening skills. Passionate about the outdoors; experience or comfort with outdoor gear is a plus. Detail-oriented; able to multitask and work efficiently even during busy times. Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Able to lift equipment (e.g. boxes or gear) up to moderate weight (e.g. 40-50 lbs) safely. Comfortable standing for long periods and moving around the store.
