Summary
Ambulatory Operations is seeking a professional nurse who is a proficient in delivering care in the ambulatory care setting. The Registered Nurse II uses past and current nursing experience to care for infusion patients. and serves as a resource / mentor for Licensed Vocational Nurses, Registered Nurse I's and unlicensed staff members.
The work hours will vary on a rotating schedule.
Job Duties
- Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and a positive patient experience
- Adheres to the scope of practice as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act
- Follows an individualized therapy plan provided by the medical provider (Physician / APP) for each patient
- Consistently demonstrates competency with technical infusion skills according to personal and legal scope of practice
- Professional assessment skills as applied to the patient, family / support system, and environment
- Administers IV medication including but not limited to : IVIG, Ocrevus, Remicade, etc.
- Able to perform peripheral or central line access for appropriate administration of medications
- Resourceful in various infusion pumps such as the Braun Infusomat Pump
- Practices nursing with high respect for individual, cultural, spiritual and economic differences
- Communicates effectively and in accordance with BCM requirements
- Reports significant changes in patient status to physician / APP and other members of the team in a timely manner consistent with patient needs
- Maintains patient records showing systematic assessment, IV lines, nursing note, discharge instructions, etc
- Participates in department meetings as scheduled
- Documents legibly and according to BCM documentation guidelines and standards
- Takes appropriate actions independently and responsively in urgent / emergent care situations
- Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job
- Promotes personal safety and a safe environment for patients and coworkers
- Demonstrates knowledge of safety / infection control practices by complying with established policies and procedures
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to potentially unsafe situations
- Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment
- Assesses environmental safety and takes initiative to prevent accidents and promote safety
- Notifies manager of need for review and / or training related to equipment, procedures, or safety / infection control practices
- Participates in ongoing, professional self-development and identifies needs for personal professional growth
- Participates in all mandatory education in Success Factors and other specified ways per BCM guidelines
- Demonstrates competency in areas of assignment or identifies the need for additional training (various diagnoses, infusion, specialized equipment, etc.)
- Schedules appointments as needed to keep the patients on their correct planned infusion schedule
- Communicates with other health care professionals regarding orders and care of patients
- Mentors and supports Licensed Vocational Nurses, Registered Nurses I's, and unlicensed staff members by directing, guiding, and influencing the outcome of an individual's performance and activity
- Prioritizes and organizes work so that assignments are completed in an efficient and timely manner
- Identifies and supports basic cost containment and efficiency for patients and the clinic
- Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks, and orders treatment room supplies as directed
- Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among health care teams and co-workers by communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport by participating in team problem-solving methods
- Recognizes allergic reactions in order provide swift and competent care
- Familiarizes self with most common infused medications used in the infusion suite
- Participates in the orientation of new clinical staff
- Exemplifies team player mentality with the ability to withstand daily work stressors
- Performs other job related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree in Nursing.Two years of experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). Degrees in lieu of experience will not be accepted.Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.Preferred Qualifications
Prior infusion experience.Must be proficient in Intravenous (IV) catheter placement, port accessing and removal of these devices.Must be a team player and demonstrate commitment to clinical care.Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills in English, and the ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced medical environment.Must be flexible on working hours.Prior familiarity and use of EMR systems.Baylor College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action / Equal Access Employer.
