Washington Water and Fire is a disaster mitigation company specializing in water, fire, mold, and specialty drying services across the Pacific Northwest. We partner closely with insurance carriers, plumbers, property managers, and referral partners to deliver fast, professional, and well-documented mitigation services.
We are expanding operations in the Tacoma market and are seeking a hands-on Project Manager – Water Mitigation to help build, manage, and scale mitigation operations from the ground up.
Position Summary
The Project Manager – Water Mitigation is responsible for building, managing, and scaling water mitigation projects from start to finish. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring someone who can perform field work while also managing operations, customer relationships, scheduling, documentation, and job profitability as the business grows.
In the initial phase, this role will personally handle all aspects of mitigation projects, including emergency response, field work, customer communication, job documentation, and billing. As volume increases, the role will transition into a leadership position with responsibility for coordinating technicians, enforcing SOPs, and overseeing multiple active projects.
This is not a desk role. Success requires urgency, accountability, strong operational discipline, and the ability to execute in the field while helping build a scalable, profitable mitigation operation.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Mitigation Execution
- Perform hands-on water mitigation services including emergency response, water extraction, demolition, equipment setup, monitoring, and dry-out procedures
- Conduct moisture mapping, daily monitoring, and documentation in accordance with IICRC standards
- Deploy, monitor, and retrieve drying equipment
- Ensure all mitigation work complies with company SOPs and industry best practices
Emergency Response & Scheduling
- Manage 24/7 emergency response, including on-call coordination and after-hours response as needed
- Respond to new losses promptly and professionally
- Coordinate project schedules and service timelines
Project Management & Documentation
- Create and manage job scopes, estimates, invoices, and insurance claim documentation
- Maintain clean, complete, and defensible job files
- Track project timelines, job profitability, material usage, and equipment deployment
Client, Adjuster & Partner Communication
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, property managers, plumbers, adjusters, and insurance carriers
- Explain mitigation processes, scopes of work, and expectations clearly
- Drive jobs through approval, billing, and payment
Team Growth & SOP Development
- Coordinate and schedule technicians as project volume increases
- Help hire, train, and onboard mitigation technicians
- Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for mitigation workflows
- Enforce safety standards, company policies, and quality expectations
Performance Management & Growth
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs), project performance metrics, and operational costs
- Monitor margins, cycle times, and job outcomes
- Collaborate with ownership on workflow optimization and long-term growth strategies
- Build and maintain referral relationships with plumbers, HVAC contractors, property managers, and other partners
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in water mitigation or restoration operations
- Strong working knowledge of IICRC standards and mitigation best practices
- Hands-on field experience with extraction, demolition, drying, and monitoring
- Experience creating scopes, estimates, and insurance documentation
- Proficiency with Xactimate or similar estimating software preferred
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Strong communication, leadership, and customer service skills
- Comfort operating in early-stage, fast-growth environments
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to perform field mitigation work and inspections
- Ability to lift, carry, and deploy drying equipment
- Ability to work in residential and commercial job site environments
- Willingness to be on-call and respond to emergency losses as required
