About the Role
The Company is in search of a Deputy General Counsel with a focus on litigation and risk management. The successful candidate will be a key player in directing and managing litigation and risk strategies that align with the company's business objectives and values. This role is pivotal in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, mitigating risks, and protecting the company's interests in a complex and highly regulated environment. The Deputy General Counsel will be responsible for a diverse litigation caseload, including commercial auto, personal injury, and employment matters, and will be expected to proactively manage these cases from inception to conclusion. Additionally, the role involves comprehensive legal research, budget management, and representing the company in various legal proceedings.
Applicants must have a Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school, be admitted to practice law in California, and have a minimum of 15 years of litigation experience. A background in general casualty and / or employment litigation, as well as experience with a union-represented workforce, is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will possess superior analytical, communication, and technical skills, and demonstrate the ability to link legal issues to long-term business goals. Agility, adaptability, and strong stakeholder management skills are essential, as is a commitment to proactive learning and staying abreast of legal developments. The role also requires the ability to work cross-functionally on risk management and compliance, including safety protocols, regulatory guidelines, and data privacy and security.
