Job Title : Development and Communications Specialist
Position Overview :
The Development and Communications Specialist will play a critical role in advancing the organization’s mission by cultivating relationships, supporting fundraising efforts, and enhancing community engagement. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual with strong writing, research, and communication skills to drive donor stewardship, prospecting, and public relations initiatives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
Cultivating Relationships
Assist the Director in managing and stewarding relationships with investors and donors.
Prepare acknowledgment letters and execute special mailings and campaigns to express gratitude and maintain donor engagement.
Prospecting & Fundraising
Research and identify potential partners and key contacts within the community to facilitate connections and strengthen relationships.
Identify and implement fundraising opportunities, including in-kind donations, online campaigns, and special events.
Develop donor-centric appeals and recognition strategies using community contacts, social media, and other communication channels.
Maintain development records and collaborate with database support teams for accurate and efficient donor tracking.
Support Grants Teams by identifying and vetting funding opportunities and soliciting volunteer assistance for grant applications.
Community Communications
Enhance community satisfaction by delivering timely and audience-centered communications through ParentSquare, Facebook, and other platforms.
Draft and edit communications to support and engage current families.
Identify campus events and initiatives for internal and external promotion.
Capture and curate community and marketing photos to strengthen engagement through communication channels.
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in development and communications.
Support the Enrollment & Advancement Team with various initiatives throughout the year.
Undertake other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the organization.
Desired Skills and Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit development and / or major gifts fundraising.
At least 5 years of relevant experience in writing and communications.
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet) with strong computer skills.
Highly organized self-starter with excellent follow-through on assignments.
Strong ability to communicate the organization's mission and commitment to gifted education effectively.
