Role and Responsibilities : Under direction of the Director of Planning, Policy, and Economic Development, the Assistant Director will assist in the overall administration of a comprehensive planning, redevelopment, community development and economic expansion of the City of East Orange. The Assistant Director will help lead and oversee the department’s Community Planning and Development programs; performs other related tasks as required :
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Professional planner issued by the NJ state board of professional planners. Five (5) years of experience in municipal, county, regional, or state planning, coordination, control of redevelopment and / or community development, two (2) years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity. Experience in administering CDBG and Home programs and compliance activities a must. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Master's degree in planning, Public or Business Administration from an accredited college or university is preferred.
NOTE : Applicants who do not meet the above education requirement may substitute additional experience as indicated below on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.

Ability to effectively and efficiently manage, plan, organize, direct, control and supervise the work of others.
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, ordinances and codes to ensure the department is compliant.
