A Brief Overview Collaborates with the Avera Executive Vice President of Mission and leaders throughout Avera to maintain, strengthen and promote Avera's Catholic identity, mission, values, and culture in the healing ministry of the church. The role a mission leader is to provide leadership in assuring the integration of mission and the promotion of Catholic identity into all aspects of the organization. The mission leader plays a key role in shaping the culture, grounded in Avera's values and expressed in spirituality reflective of the heritage and faith traditions on which Avera was founded. The mission leader will collaborate with others in the development of new ministries to promote healthy communities and will assist in advancing the advocacy agenda at the national, state and local levels. The mission leader facilitates community involvement and relationships. What you will do Fosters the creation of mission-centered culture throughout Avera and enhances relationships with the institutional Church. As requested by Avera Sponsors and CEO, serves as a liaison between sponsors and local bishops(s) regarding discussion of ethical and moral decisions, advocacy issues affecting the poor and marginalized, and accountability for Catholic identity. Leads the integration of heritage, tradition, mission and values of Avera and its founders amid the changing context of health care. Educates and inspires persons throughout Avera Recognize how their work advances the mission, values and healing ministry. Able to read the signs of the times to ensure evolving strategies are suited to bring Avera into the future with integrity. Serves as a partner in ensuring that the mission and values are expressed in Avera’s policies, practices and procedures. Collaborates with leaders to ensure recruitment, selection and retention are inclusive and consistent with Avera’s mission and values. Responsible for the creation, delivery, measurement and integration of effective formative experiences for employees at all levels of Avera. Able to invite others into dialog to consider their calling and vocation. As a facilitator, able to recognize and hold space for the work of the Holy Spirit in each person and situation. Cultivates an integrated spiritual life, articulates lived faith experience and the meaning it brings, as well as encourages and empowers individuals and Avera to do the same. Establishes community and relationships with diverse persons and groups that are hones, caring and joyful. In collaboration with other, develops and fosters well-being initiatives and holistic care models responding to the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of patients, residents and caregivers. Applies theological training to the practical and pastoral issues encountered in health care. Identifies when theological and ethical principles are relevant and translate them into layperson’s language. Understands, applies and serves as a resource regarding the principles of Catholic social teaching and moral theology, including the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs). Services on ethics committees and provides ethics education. Able to identify clinical and organizational ethical issues and facilitate an ethical discernment process in collaboration with key stake, subject-matter experts and trained ethicists. Engages community and system leaders in dialog to ensure strategy, decisions, polices and budgets demonstrate a tangible commitment to justice, solidarity and right relationship. As requested by CEO and Avera Office for Public Policy, involved in setting advocacy priorities and collaborating with stakeholders to meet the demonstrated needs of the community. Has a working knowledge of Avera’s business and financial realities; meaningfully engages with other executive leaders in operational decisions. Stays apprised of changes and trends in the health care landscape; able to anticipate the mission and ethical implications and plan for the future. Participates in assessment process of senior management candidates to ascertain their willingness and ability to promote our mission and values. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Essential Qualifications The individual must be able to work the hours specified. Required Education, License / Certification, or Work Experience : Bachelor's preferably in Catholic theology, health care mission, ethics or equivalent. Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who is well-formed in the Catholic theological tradition 1-3 years Leadership experience accompanied by the ability to work effectively with groups and in a complex and organizational structure.
