Job Summary : Under general supervision, provides psychological assessment, diagnosis and individual, group, and family therapy, case management services, referral, and follow-up for patients with acute or chronic psychiatric disorders, and consultation with outside facilities and / or agencies. Responsible for supervising psychology practicum students, interns and / or post-doctoral fellows. Job is primarily on-site to provide in-person supervision for trainees and on-site treatment for patients. Remote work is possible based on approval from supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
  • Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and / or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client.
  • Interviewing and psychological / developmental evaluation skills.
  • Ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to assess mental status in clients and to develop individual treatment goals and plans.
  • Skill in supervision of trainees
  • Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring, interpretation and report writing.
  • Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stressors.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
  • Preferred but not required - licensed for at least three years at the Doctoral level
  • Valid Vermont Psychology license or license eligible
  • Eligible for credentialing with 3rd party payors.
  • Eligible for appointment to medical staff
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

    Core Competencies

    Diagnose or evaluates psychiatric disorders of individuals and administers programs of treatment; interviews patients in outpatient and inpatient settings and reviews medical and social case histories.

    Observes patients in various situations; selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment, and provides consultation to other mental health professionals regarding test results.

    Treats psychological disorders to effect improved adjustment utilizing various psychological techniques; selects appropriate treatment approach and plans frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group, and family therapies.

    Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment plans, accordingly, communicates with and counsels family members as appropriate.

    Documents assessments and therapy sessions in accordance with policies and procedures regarding medical records; implements and adheres to policies which ensure patient confidentiality.

    Provides quality services to patients, including clinical care and documentation. Adheres to

    Provides crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment

    Provides direct service in accordance with department’s productivity and other performance standards.

    Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development and maintains currency of methodology and techniques.

    Provides leadership in program development and evaluation in specified area. Develops and recommends changes to improve service delivery as needed. Implement changes and new programming to meet both clinical and fiscal standards as determined by the clinical and administrative program director.

    Assists in receiving authorization from managed care / insurance companies.

    Instructs and directs psychology interns, post-doctoral fellows and practicum students

    Supervises psychology interns, post-doctoral fellows and practicum students

    Provides psychological consultations to other mental health professionals within the hospital, and other community-based agencies regarding clients and / or patient care.

    Provides clinical supervision under directive of departmental director. Supervision may be provided to Brattleboro Retreat clinical staff throughout the continuum of programs.

    May be required to contribute to research design, methodology and statistical analysis for

    Brattleboro Retreat programs.

    Participates in developing and implementing performance improvement initiatives

    Cooperates in marketing of Retreat corporate and departmental services and acts as an

    ambassador to all potential customers

    May develop and implement clinical research programs.
