A City of San Ramon Assistant Pool Manager / Pool Manager provides safety, supervision, and instruction for the patrons at the San Ramon Olympic Pool & Aquatic Park and Dougherty Valley Aquatic Center. These advanced lifeguarding positions provide leadership and program responsibility to the San Ramon Olympic Pool & Aquatic Park and Dougherty Valley Aquatic Center in all operations at the facility including swim lessons, recreational swim, water safety classes, aquatics summer camps, and staff development. During the busy summer season, these positions may be assigned up to a 40 hour work week, which may include evenings and weekends.
Candidates will be considered for the Assistant Pool Manager and Pool Manager vacancies depending on the candidates' qualifications and experience, as well as, the number of positions available at each level.
These are the journey-level classes in the Lifeguard Series in the Parks and Community Services Department. Positions in this series typically have basic work-related experience and work under general supervision.
The Assistant Pool Manager level usually perform duties required of the Pool Manager level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and positions at the Pool Manager level can be filled by advancement from the Assistant Pool Manager level after gaining the knowledge, skill, and experience which meet the qualifications for and after demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.

Basic safety precautions and procedures related to recreation programs and facilities. Philosophy, objectives and requirements in the implementation of municipal aquatics programs. Knowledge and command of all of the latest safety standards and information related to aquatics. Professional work habits including reliability, dependability, creativity, and demonstration of enthusiasm for the job. Techniques for effectively dealing with individuals of various ages, various socio-economic and ethnic groups, and effectively representing the City in contacts with the public. Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff. Office equipment, practices, and procedures.

A valid California Driver's License is not a requirement for this position. However, persons hired into this class who intend to drive their personal vehicle and / or a City vehicle as part of their job duties will be required to possess a valid California Driver's License; alternatively, persons hired into this class could use alternative means of transportation as part of their job duties.
