Law Enforcement Investigator II
This is an opportunity to serve as a state law enforcement officer in Florida. Employees demonstrating advanced investigative and critical thinking skills normally excel within this Bureau. Employees are challenged with shifting seamlessly from regulatory investigators to law enforcement officers during their investigative activities. The Bureau seeks applicants interested in investigating complex crimes while deterring underage access to alcoholic beverages, tobacco and nicotine products. These positions require team members to work some nights and weekends as necessary.
Your specific responsibilities include planning, conducting, and completing criminal, administrative and civil investigations for which the Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco has jurisdiction. You will independently conduct investigations of stolen or counterfeit cigarette tax stamps; unlawful shipments of deliveries of alcoholic beverages or tobacco products into the State; non-tax paid alcoholic beverages, tobacco products and fraudulent applications, tax returns, and records; and unlawful ties between manufacturers or distributors and retailers of alcoholic beverages. You will also prepare well-composed, accurate reports and submit documentation within specified timeframes. Additionally, you will conduct interviews, testify in official legal proceedings, and participate in cooperative investigations with other agencies. You will provide training regarding state laws and rules which the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco is responsible for enforcing. You will participate in community prevention and education events. You will enforce final orders, settlement agreements, and court orders, make arrests, serve warrants, recruit and document informants, and account for investigative expenses. You will plan, conduct and complete inspections of businesses licensed to sell or serve alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, to promote compliance. You will participate in training as required or assigned and properly maintain issued equipment. You will maintain familiarity with the division's written policies and procedures, departmental legal opinions, statutory changes, rules, agency directives, and court decisions. You will perform other related duties and participate in state declared emergency operations as assigned which may involve extended travel outside of the assigned area in the event of activation. You will maintain proper physical conditioning to perform the duties of a sworn law enforcement officer.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system, knowledge of crime prevention and control procedures, knowledge of arrest procedures, skilled in using restraining devices and firearms, ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations, ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner, ability to gather and preserve evidence, ability to determine work priorities and ensures completion of work assignments, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, ability to analyze and interpret law enforcement data, ability to effectively interview suspects, complainants and witnesses, and ability to lift and maneuver a minimum of 50 pounds are required.
Minimum requirements include holding a current active Florida Law Enforcement Officer certification or having passed the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) law enforcement examination, having a minimum of 2 years of sworn law enforcement experience, currently possessing and maintaining a valid state of Florida driver's license, residing within 70 air miles of the Fort Myers District Office at the time of employment, passing a law enforcement level 2 background screening, successfully completing an internal training program, and having a safe driving history.
