Description :
The position requires a registered nurse in a neonatal intensive care unit.
Common diagnoses include respiratory distress.
The unit has 43 beds and 32 rooms.
The normal nurse to patient ratio is 3 : 1.
In higher acuity situations, the ratio can be 2 : 1 or 1 : 1.
Occasionally, there may be lower acuity assignments with a ratio of 4 : 1.
Charting is conducted using Cerner.
Special procedures include arterial sticks, maintenance of cooling blankets, chest tubes, and PIV.
