We are currently looking for a 80% remote “Data Scientist” to join a leading environmental company based in the Port Arthur, Texas. As the Data Scientist, you will be responsible for harnessing data to drive impactful environmental solutions

About the Role

Project Inspired by hazardous waste projects, this project was initiated to tackle the high complexity of operating a hazardous waste incinerator, such as the one in the Port Arthur plant. This project aims to enhance the incineration operation process at the plant and efficiently support operators by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to achieve their operational objectives. It is also expected to ensure business continuity, addressing the potential challenges posed by the retirement of experienced employees and the departure of expert knowledge from the group. This project is similar to the previous project, but there is one significant difference. While the hazardous waste project is designed to optimize the treatment volume of hazardous wastes on a daily basis, this project focuses on optimizing waste feeding, i.e. flowrates, to an incinerator. We propose a solution to optimize flow rates, aiming to achieve operational goals such as stable combustion, maximizing revenue, etc. For that, we first analyse the dataset with various statistical measures. Then, we present machine learning models that are used to evaluate if potential flowrate solutions are feasible. Finally, we present an optimization model designed to meet the business needs. Before introducing the proposed solution, in this chapter, we present the project timeline and business needs in the following sections.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement data models using Python to analyse environmental data.
• Utilise Google Cloud Platform to manage and process large datasets.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate data insights into actionable strategies.
• Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders to support decision-making processes.
