Firefighter
Performs responsible protective service work in fire suppression and in providing on-site emergency medical services to sick and injured; does related work as required. Work is often performed under emergency conditions and frequently involves considerable personal hazard. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Responding to alarms; driving equipment; assisting in the suppression of fires; providing basic emergency medical service.
Responds to alarms; drives equipment and assists in the suppression of fires, including rescue, entry, ventilating and salvage work and first response emergency situations.
Responds to emergency calls; drives equipment and administers first aid.
Observes patient responses and maintains accurate and complete records.
Checks and prepares equipment and supplies for treatment; tests fire hose.
Performs cleanup and overhaul work; provides pump test on fire engines.
Assists in maintaining fire apparatus and equipment and cleaning fire station and grounds.
Assists with fire prevention inspections and pre-fire planning within fire district.
Installs smoke detectors.
Participates in continuing training and instruction programs by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes.
Gives tours of the fire station and conducts fire safety classes for the general public.
Performs related tasks as required.

General knowledge of elementary physics, chemistry and mechanics as applied to fire suppression.
Ability to learn technical firefighting principles and techniques and principles of hydraulics applied to fire suppression.
General knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and automobile extraction and transportation; general knowledge of the street system and geography of the City.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; possession of mechanical aptitude; physical endurance and agility.
Education and experience : High school diploma or equivalent; 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Licenses, certifications, special requirements :
Valid Florida Driver's License required
State Certified Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.

Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and / or to make fine distinctions in sound.
Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and / or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
Mental demands :
This job involves inside and outside work and is exposed to all weather conditions and dangerous environment.
