As a Shipping Associate at Steel Technologies, your day-to-day responsibilities will include verifying and maintaining records on all outgoing shipments. We can guarantee your role will require multitasking, organization and time-management skills. You’ll be responsible for helping Steel Technologies succeed by preparing items for shipment to our customers and ensuring their expectations are met. Essentially, you play a big part in getting the finished material into the right hands at the right time.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Plan loads based upon customer due date to ensure on-time delivery and maximize use of trucks
2. Direct forklift operators to arrange loads for shipment
3. Verify shipments for accuracy
4. Coordinate Customs paperwork with Customs Brokers
5. Prepare packing lists, mill certified test reports, and bills of lading for loads
6. Establish and maintain relationships with long haul carriers
7. Provide freight rate quotes to sales
8. Locate and schedule long haul carriers for inbound and outbound shipments
9. Manage local carriers
10. Expedite shipments as needed
11. Maintain good housekeeping and safety standards in finished goods warehouse
12. Communicate with sales and plant production management to advise of delivery date or make
production changes
13. Communicate with customers regarding deliveries
14. Learn receiving functions to act as back-up for receiving coordinator
15. Assist in inventory management functions
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Proficient math skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
- Bi-lingual in Spanish / English is preferred
