Reports to : General Sales Manager

Supervises : Retail Sales Consultants

Position Objective :

The Retail Sales Manager is responsible for assisting the General Sales Manager and Inventory Manager in planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of the New and Used Vehicles Sales Department. The primary objective of this role is to work directly with sales consultants and customers to sell new and used vehicle inventory by engaging in dialog with and alongside sales consultants and customers, discerning customer needs, and presenting solutions to meet customer needs. A successful Retail Sales Manager will achieve General Motors and Curry Auto Center sales objectives while maximizing the profitability of each sale. This role will require collaboration with the General Sales Manager and Inventory Manager to set objectives for the Sales Department. These goals will be achieved through planning, organizing, controlling, and measuring the performance of the Sales Consultants.

Work Schedule :

  • Monday through Saturday with one day off during the week plus Sunday off.
  • 15 Saturdays per year can be used at your regularly scheduled day off instead of of a week day.
  • Shifts : 8 : 00 AM - 5 : 00 PM or 10 : 00 AM - 7 : 00 PM (two late shifts per week).

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Engage directly with customers and Sales Consultants in presenting vehicle solutions, appraising customer trade-ins, and presenting numbers.
  • Active customer engagement in closing deals.
  • Maintain standards for delivery of vehicles to customers
  • Oversee the efforts of Sales Consultants to enhance the image and customer satisfaction ratings of the dealership
  • Work with Sales Consultants and third-party partners (an example : Zurich) on programs that will increase the new-car gross, used-car gross, and F&I penetration
  • Work closely with the General Sales Manager and Inventory Manager to cross train on certain responsibilities that would allow for coverage when a team member is out of the office
  • Establish a program which ensures that all Sales Consultants are kept informed of all new and used inventory and establish and enforce product-knowledge standards.
  • Assist the General Sales Manager in forecasting controllable expense elements for the Sales Department.
  • Assist the General Sales Manager in forecasting goals and objectives for the Sales Department and strive to meet them.
  • Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect new and used vehicle sales (e.g., ensure that Buyer’s Guide stickers are affixed to the window of every used vehicle).
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Department and the General Sales Manager, hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of each Sales Department employee.
  • Communicate with Sales Consultants to ensure that dealership policies and procedures are understood and followed.
  • Monitor Sales consultants sales and pay records.
  • Set sales and gross objectives for Sales Consultants and guide each Sales Consultant toward achieving their short and long-range goals.
  • Review all Sales Consultants’ performance as shown in the Daily Sales Operating Control.
  • Recommend for dismissal any Sales Consultant failing to meet Sales Department Standards.
  • Communicate with the General Sales Manager and Inventory Manager regarding trade-ins on a daily basis.
  • Understand, follow, and enforce the used inventory turn rate policy.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as needed.
  • Required Qualifications :

  • Two years of sales experience
  • Managerial experience recommended
  • Broad knowledge of all types of vehicles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Professional personal appearance
  • Working Conditions :

  • Indoors and outdoors moving on company property and within company facilities, as well as travel to and from auctions.
  • Working at a desk on a computer and in an office setting.
  • Exposure to the Service Department, Parts Department, and Collision Center.
  • Driving vehicles in traffic during test drives and navigating vehicles and people on the dealership lot.
  • Evenings, holidays, and weekend work hours may be required.
