Senior SQL Database Administrator Consultant - Healthcare IT (100% Remote) Job ID : 8307 Client : State of South Carolina Employment Type : 12-Month Contract Pay Rate Range : $80.00 - $100.00 per hour (DOE) The Opportunity : SQL DBA Senior Lead on High-Impact Project We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior SQL Database Administrator to serve as a key technical consultant and IV&V Technical Engineer on a large, high-visibility project for the State of South Carolina. This team operates with an “entrepreneurial” and “startup” mentality, requiring a strong, independent expert ready to step into a leadership advisory role. This is a chance to leverage your deep SQL expertise to ensure performance, scalability, and stability across crucial application and infrastructure databases supporting a major healthcare initiative. Location & Travel Requirement (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY) Location : This position is 100% Remote. Travel : Onsite travel for meetings will be required periodically. Expect approximately 25% travel (project dependent) to Columbia, SC (29201). Candidates must be willing and able to travel as needed. Core Responsibilities The Senior SQL DBA will work closely with project development (scrum / sprint) teams and collaborate with existing Oracle and IDMS DBA teams to ensure best-in-class database management and performance. Technical Execution & Advisory Provide expert, hands-on SQL development and application support, adhering to Microsoft best practices. Advise development and product teams on optimal approaches for data model extensions and changes. Develop and execute data migration plans as needed for data transfers from existing data stores. Analyze performance data, recommend courses of action, and implement solutions to achieve optimum database performance. Collaboration & Operations Collaborate with the Clemson Oracle and IDMS database administration team to maintain test, staging, and production databases. Develop and document operational procedures for database management across the team. Coordinate technical efforts with outside entities, including third-party vendors, providers, and other State agencies. Critical Support Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation. Contribute project planning expertise, including effort estimation for technical tasks and resource allocation. Required Qualifications (The Must-Haves) Senior DBA Experience : Proven experience as a DBA supporting enterprise applications, with strong expertise in SQL Server. Environment Experience : Demonstrated success in supporting enterprise applications in Linux environments (experience with both Windows and Linux preferred). Web-Based Solutions : Demonstrated success in supporting development teams implementing primarily web-based solutions that utilize SQL as the database. Data Guard : Experience with Data Guard or similar high-availability / disaster recovery solutions. Consulting & Communication : Strong written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present technical information to project management and business stakeholders. Integrity : Impeccable integrity and the confidence to make correct decisions and speak out when necessary, given the high visibility and impact on public funds. Preferred Skills (Differentiators) Healthcare IT : Previous experience in the healthcare industry and / or managing PHI / PII data. MMIS : Direct experience with Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) or Medicaid operations. Security : Experience in data encryption and traffic encryption. Vendor Management : Experience coordinating and managing vendor relationships for technical services. Education : Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business, or related field.
