Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute Night Shift position requiring IL licensure and prior Level 1 trauma and neuro unit experience.
Responsibilities
Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit in an acute care settingPatient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and some medical overflow casesNurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 on days and 1 : 5-6 on nightsRequired to titrate drips including heparin gtts based on PTTPhillips telemetry monitors used with house-wide telemetry techs, nurses do not read own stripsHigh flow O2 rarely used, primarily for stable COVID cases12-hour night shifts (1900-0700) with every other weekend and holiday rotationRequired to float in rotation with the rest of the staff within similar skill unitsCharting is done in EPIC; EPIC experience preferredMain responsibilities include nursing care of neurological and some medical overflow patientsDrip titration and monitoring of neuro-specific interventions requiredCharge nurse and house supervisor on every shift, charge RNs do not take assignments except in extreme staffing situationsNurse aides / patient care techs support the unit with ratios up to 1 : 12 at nightNo scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings permittedOrientation is 2 days including unit-specific computer and precepted patient careCOVID vaccination is not required for this assignmentLocal rates apply for clinicians residing within 50 miles, no radius rule for considerationRequirements
Active IL RN license required at time of considerationCurrent BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; copies of active certs must be providedMinimum 1 year of RN experience with prior travel nursing and dedicated neuro unit experienceLevel 1 trauma experience requiredHeparin drip titration experience requiredNo first-time travelers will be consideredBenefits
