Position Summary :
Working from blueprints, sketches, specifications, verbal, or written instructions, the EDM / CNC Lathe Operator sets up, adjusts, programs, and operates a computerized numerical control (CNC) lathe and a wire electrical discharge machine (EDM). The incumbent will be required to perform all operational functions as described in the machine operation manuals and will maintain quality standards to achieve required tolerances for all parts.

Quality - Complete and accurate work performed efficiently

- Performs programming, set-up, operation, and basic maintenance of electrical discharge machine (EDM) and CNC Lathe.
\n
Establishes standard boundary parameters for feeds, speeds, and other machine limits.\n
Selects operation sequences for data entry and reviews a CRT display to check for accuracy of data input.\n
Performs in-process inspection, periodically verifying conformance to drawings, specifications, and operation sheets, using precision measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators.\n
Maintains quality standards to achieve required tolerances.\n
Will recommend tooling applications and sequences for new or unusual operations.\n
Will be required to manually debur and polish various parts.\n \n Follow instructions - oral and / or written
\n
Using instructions contained in the operation manual, performs the necessary functions related to the set up of the machine, requiring an understanding of the nomenclature and codes for data entry into the computer console.\n
Performs other duties as assigned by the area Production Lead and his / her designate.\n \n Safety & Housekeeping

Wears appropriate gear and clothing as necessary.\n
Maintains a clean work area with no clutter.\n
Practices safety at all times while at work.\n

Will perform some set-ups and instructional training for machinists of other job classifications.\n
Will recommend tooling applications and sequences for new or unusual operations.\n
Will be required to monitor spare parts and maintenance items.\n \n Professional Development
Will be required to attend applicable schooling on or off site.\n
Requirements
Qualifications
Education and Training
High school, BOCES, or trade school background is essential or the equivalent on pertinent machine shop experience, including a good knowledge of lathes and other turning machine tools.\n Experience
\n
Three to five years of machine shop experience.\n
Must pass a proficiency test.\n \n Skills (Preferred)
\n
Training and / or actual experience in the operation of EDM equipment preferred.\n
Good working knowledge of blueprint reading, shop math, machine shop practice, and the use of precision measuring tools.\n
CNC training is desired.\n
Will be required to supply several personal tools such as scale, square, tape, hammer, wrench, etc., as determined by the supervisor.\n \n Physical and Mental Demands
\n
May be required to move items up to 60 pounds for distances of up to 10 feet.\n
May be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time.\n
Considerable amount of work done above floor level.\n
Must wear appropriate gear and clothing as necessary.\n
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to read, write, analyze data and reports, exercise judgment, develop plans, procedures and goals, present information to others and work under pressure.\n \n
Work Environment : \n
Duties are performed indoors in a manufacturing environment.\n
May be exposed to high level of manufacturing and equipment noise.\n
Exposure to fumes or dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, and moving mechanical parts with vibration.\n \n Work Authorization / Security Clearance
Must be able to work in the U.S without sponsorship.
