Overview

POST-DOCTORAL PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY FELLOWSHIP – Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, offers innovative Post-Doctoral Pharm.D. Fellowships with extensive training in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry. This 2-year Fellowship is a joint effort between the Rutgers Institute for Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowships (RPIF) and Genentech. Program emphasis is in US Medical / Medical Science Liaison, NeuroImmunology Fellow, and US Medical / Medical Science Liaison Solid Tumor Fellow. The program provides an opportunity to develop and execute medical strategy for both marketed and pipeline molecules for the US affiliate. The network supports Medical Science Liaison (MSL) activities by serving as subject matter experts and ensuring strategic alignment across Medical Affairs. The US Medical / MSL Fellowship is a two-year program based in South San Francisco, designed to expose the Fellow to a broad range of corporate and field-based US Medical Affairs activities within the assigned Medical Unit. The focus of the second year is determined by the mutual interests of the Fellow and the company. The Fellow will gain knowledge of US Medical core functions and develop foundational scientific and professional skill sets for a successful career.

The Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in or lead :

  • Tactic execution with the Medical Directors and Medical Science Directors who support medical strategy
  • Pre- and peri-approval preparations for new molecular entities
  • Clinical insights with colleagues across various cross-functional departments
  • Development of training and tools for the Field Medical Team
  • Collaborative studies and activities across NCI, Academic Alliances, and Community Networks

MSL Component

Alongside the Medical Affairs experience, the Fellow will have the opportunity to participate in or lead :

  • MSL strategy planning and execution with MSL leadership
  • In-field scientific exchange with providers and key opinion leaders
  • Execution of advisory boards and congress tactics
  • University-based experiences

    Complementing the industry experiences, Rutgers offers a Professional Development Series; opportunities for collaborative research, publication, and teaching; and opportunities to participate in or lead Rutgers Fellowship committees. These Fellowships provide a broad professional development opportunity in both corporate and academic environments to promote the role of Pharm.D.s in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry and help fuel careers as future leaders.

    The RPIF Program application portal opens at 12 PM ET on October 8th. Initial interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis virtually (video conference) starting October 20th. To apply, candidates MUST use the RPIF website (http : / / pharmafellows.rutgers.edu / how-to-apply / ) to create a RPIF Candidate Account and upload the required application materials by the dates noted below. Remember that the application process is on a rolling basis, so earlier is better. Please see our website for additional important recruitment information and dates.

    Initial offers will not be made until December 12th, the AIFA consensus date for first offers. Once all interviews have been completed, RPIF or the company will notify interviewed candidates of their position-specific candidacy status. Candidate Checklist : 1. Complete the brief RPIF portal short-answer questions and you should upload your Letter of Intent and Curriculum Vitae (CV) by October 17th, 2025. b) Begin securing letters of recommendation because all 3 must be received before you can be fully considered for an offer.
