Description :
MUST HAVE LEVEL 1 TRAUMA EXPERIENCE.
50-mile radius rule applies.
Candidates must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance.
Travelers have two attempts to pass the exam.
Failing results in a do-not-use status for six months within specified regions.
Travel teams must provide their own vehicles.
Natural hair color is required, and facial piercings are not permitted.
Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
Candidates will take a pass / fail exam on the first day of orientation.
All nurses will be expected to complete simulations lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes.
Nurses must be competent in maintaining sterile field.
Failing to maintain sterile field could lead to termination during the simulations lab.
Aside from the simulations lab, there will be educational sessions on lifts, restraints, and wound care.
The unit has a total of 52 beds.
Strong medical-surgical experience is required, with rehabilitation experience preferred.
Staffing ratios are 1 RN to 6 patients and 1 tech to 8 patients.
Charge nurses include two RNs with light assignments based on the census.
There are nurse aides available.
Weekend requirements include four shifts within an eight-week period.
Holidays will be integrated into the core rotation.
Scrub color required is slate grey.
No telemetry or vent care is provided.
Rehab physicians round daily and are on-call at night.
A specialized team is available for difficult IV access.
Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24 / 7.
Shifts for technicians begin at 6 : 30 AM, 3 PM, and 11 : 30 PM.
Floating may occur to any medical-surgical unit.
Common diagnoses include a high percentage of neurological patients, such as those recovering from brain tumor resections, strokes, and organ transplants.
Nurses need to be comfortable with high levels of communication and personal involvement with patients and families.
Partnership in care is essential, including acute medical-surgical responsibilities.
The average length of stay for patients is 19-21 days.
Cancellation policy allows for up to four shifts to be canceled per 13-week assignment.
Charting is completed using a specified electronic medical record system.
