Public Health Environmental Manager

Position Summary

The Public Health Environmental Manager oversees environmental health programs and services designed to protect community health and safety. This role involves managing environmental inspections, enforcing health and safety regulations, responding to environmental hazards, and supervising staff. The manager also works closely with government agencies, industries, and community partners to ensure compliance with environmental and public health standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Program Oversight & Management

Plan, implement, and evaluate environmental health programs (e.g., sanitation, water quality, food safety, vector control, waste management, air quality).

Supervise, train, and mentor environmental health staff, inspectors, and technicians.

Conduct inspections of facilities, businesses, and public spaces to ensure compliance with health codes.

Act as liaison between the department and community stakeholders, businesses, and government agencies.

Lead environmental health response to public health emergencies, such as disease outbreaks, hazardous spills, or natural disasters.

Collect, analyze, and report data on environmental health trends and program outcomes.

Develop and manage program budgets.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Environmental Science, or related field (Master's preferred).

5+ years of progressive experience in environmental / public health.

Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or equivalent.

Strong knowledge of environmental health laws, codes, and regulations.
