Tax Manager
Overview
Burns, Sweeney & Associates, a local tax and accounting firm in Glenshaw, PA, is hiring a qualified candidate to join our tax team. We are seeking a local candidate for our next Tax Manager. We serve around 2,000 clients and have six full-time employees.
Compensation & Benefits
- Full-time employment : 55 hours per week February through mid-April (tax season) and 31 hours per week mid-April through January.
- Work from home is available one day per week, including during tax season.
- Flexible start time.
- Approximately 1,700 working hours per year.
- Four weeks of paid leave offered outside of tax season.

- CPE & licensing costs 100% paid for by the firm.
- Salary range of $80,000 - $100,000 based on experience.

Key Responsibilities
Tax & Accounting Expertise
Prepare and review individual and small business Federal, state, and local income tax returns, from simple to complex : 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, & 1120S.Serve as a tax expert and trusted representative of the firm by advising clients on income, deductions, estimates, amendments, and investment-related tax matters.Ensure ongoing compliance with Federal, state, and local tax laws, GAAP, and compliance standards.Client Engagement
Meet in person with clients and prospective clients to cultivate long-term relationships and provide personalized tax and financial guidance.Establish trust and rapport with colleagues and clients converting one-time interactions into recurring relationships.Consult with clients on entity formation and business performance.Management Responsibilities
Prioritize and delegate work to accounting and administrative staff; set expectations and hold staff accountable for work quality and timely performance.Regularly review staff assignments and performance.Provide teaching and training one-on-one with staff, including reviews of tax returns and accounting projects.Uphold and enforce the policies and procedures of the firm with clients and staff.Foster team cohesion with positive attitude and interactions.Requirements
Credentials & Licenses
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.Active Enrolled Agent (EA) credentials or CPA certification, with extensive tax preparation experience.Active PTIN.Experience & Knowledge
Minimum 7 years preparing 350+ Federal and state returns by April 15, using tax software.Ability to provide comprehensive tax advisory services beyond basic filing.Strong interest in consulting with clients on a range of tax issues.Qualifications
Exceptional interpersonal skills and professionalism.Strong communication skills whether in person, by phone, or over email.Comfortable meeting with clients in person and by phone.Sharp attention to detail for accuracyProficiency with industry technology (Microsoft Suite, Intuit tax and accounting systems).Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Commitment to continuous preparation and steady progress towards firm and industry deadlines.
