Position Summary
The primary role of this position is as a brewing subject matter expert through the leadership of successful brewing / flavoring / coffee production operations daily, providing proactive solutions for improvement, leading brewery personnel including on daily brewery operations and methods. This role ensures all brewing products are produced on time, in full, and error free.
An ideal applicant is highly skilled in brewing and fermentation, demonstrates keen attention to detail and trouble shooting abilities, thrives in a fast-paced production environment, and enjoys working as a part of a multifunctional team.
General Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist Brewing Specialist and Brewing Supervisor in creation and execution of daily brew plan.
Disseminate the plan to the team and verify completed tasks.
Adjust tanks as needed using the tank manager to meet production goals.Exercise a working knowledge of carbonation methods and proceduresEnsure the correct product transfers through filtration to appropriate tanks according to WIs and escalate anomalies.Verify all flavor additions are completed successfully by the flavorists.Test, taste and document active fermentations and experiments as neededDemonstrate advanced working knowledge of the coffee extraction process and HTST operationStep in to support the coffee brewing team when needed
Support with HTST operation trainingAssist with data collection from HTST and batch tracking dataEscalate all issues and exceptions of product or ingredient quality based on the seriousness / urgency of the situation to the appropriate member of leadership.Support with research and development (R&D) as requestedParticipate in DMAIC, Kizan and other projects that benefit the departmentDemonstrate expert level working knowledge and execution of all Clean in Place (CIP) proceduresTrains team members on all CIP processes.
Participates in annual chemical training, proper cleaning chemical usage and proper chemical titrationsExecutes routine cleaning of equipment, floors, drains, tools, equipment, and other systemsRecognizes and suggests development opportunities to Brewing Specialist, Brewing Supervisor and Brewing Manager in order to drive team efficiency by :Identifying and suggesting cross training opportunities
Coordinating training sessions and ensuring all team members participateRecommending staff schedule adjustment opportunitiesCovering for brew team member I and II position absencesAssist in inventory counts, accurate data entry in ERP system and production spreadsheetsEnter maintenance work requests as needed to trigger non-urgent repairs and preventative maintenance; escalate urgent repairs to leadership.Model and uphold a continual environment of safety and awareness :Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures;
Report any safety hazards or incidents to the appropriate person immediatelyAdhere to all PPE requirements and policiesTrain new safety standards / procedures as directedFile near miss / incident reports and escalate all safety concerns and / or incidentsAssist in assigned corrective actionsFood Safety and Quality Responsibilities
Follow GMP policy when in the production facility and encourage your team to do the same.Understand our SQF policies relating to pest control, visitors, allergen management, and cleaning and sanitation.Demonstrate awareness of Management's Commitment to SQF and work towards Food Safety and Quality and help the company meet this commitment.If there is a problem that involves food quality and safety, report to the Quality Assurance Manager Manager so that the CAPA (corrective action, preventative action) log may be filled out, the situation be investigated, and resolved with the goal of continuous improvement of food quality and safety.Required Skills / Abilities
