Zurich Direct Markets BU is seeking an Underwriting Specialist OR Executive Underwriter for our Finance and Insurance (F&I) Underwriting team located in Overland Park, Kansas. This role offers a hybrid schedule with three in‑office days per week (Mon‑Wed).
Purpose
Analyze and underwrite new and existing F&I business to support the portfolio’s long‑term growth and profitability while delivering excellent service to customers and the sales organization.
Job Accountabilities
Will be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level, based on experience and skill set.
Key Accountabilities
- Make sound underwriting decisions within assigned authority, ensuring profitability and customer retention.
- Analyze and underwrite new and existing F&I business independently under general direction and within delegated authority levels.
- Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s underwriting appetite.
- Calculate target pricing using underwriting tools and models.
- Understand and analyze risk.
- Negotiate pricing and other terms with the sales organization to close the deal.
- Review the Dealer Product Questionnaire (DPQ) with key sales personnel for accurate setup, implementation, and growth opportunities.
- Update and maintain key applications with rating and pricing variables.
- Work with internal teams to ensure accurate and complete onboarding.
- Maintain accurate documentation for all underwriting activities.
- Support sales culture as a key contact for assigned territory.
- Provide technical advice to sales and customers to solve problems and improve business.
- Anticipate customer needs and monitor trends to recommend changes.
- Proactively manage a portfolio of accounts, addressing customer needs and supporting retention.
- Apply rating tools and methodologies to deliver customer solutions and suggest improvements.
- Prepare and review contracts.
- Calculate settlement offers.
- Travel for business as required.
- Work extended hours during peak periods and as required.
- Maintain predictable attendance, including in‑office on team days (Mon‑Wed).
Business Accountabilities
Develop and maintain relationships with the Sales organization to support business acquisition, retention, and profitability.Provide data querying and reporting for internal and customer requests.Perform analysis of underwriting profitability and identify trends.Lead and facilitate periodic account reviews for assigned territory.Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing insights and participating in team initiatives.Attend and participate in sales team meetings, both virtual and in‑person, with a prepared purpose.Additional Job Functions

High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of underwriting or market‑facing experience (or 6+ years in claims or underwriting support).Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and at least 1 year of underwriting or market‑facing experience (or 4+ years in claims / underwriting support).Knowledge of line(s) of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.Experience with Microsoft Office.High School Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of underwriting or market‑facing experience (or 10+ years in claims or underwriting support).Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and at least 3 years of underwriting or market‑facing experience (or 8+ years in claims / underwriting support).Knowledge of Microsoft Office.Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.Experience working in a team environment.Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree.Professional designations such as CPCU, ARe, or equivalent.Strong analytical and decision‑making skills with solid risk assessment.Creative problem‑solving skills.Technologically sophisticated.Experience in data querying and analysis.Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.Proficiency with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.Technical knowledge of Finance and Insurance product offerings and marketing model.Compensation
Base salary range : $75,000.00 – $165,000.00.
Underwriting Specialist : $74,300.00 – $121,700.00 (10% short‑term incentive bonus).
Executive Underwriter : $98,300.00 – $161,000.00 (15% short‑term incentive bonus).
