Job Title : Muffler, Exhaust, and Undercarriage Specialist
Job Summary : We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Muffler, Exhaust and Undercarriage Specialist with comprehensive knowledge of undercarriage systems, including wheel bearings, drum brakes, tie rods, shocks and struts, and other under-car components. The ideal candidate will diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicle exhaust systems and undercarriage parts to ensure optimal performance, safety, and customer satisfaction. This role requires hands-on expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality automotive repair services.
Key Responsibilities :
- Muffler and Exhaust System Repairs :
Diagnose and repair exhaust system issues, including mufflers, catalytic converters, exhaust pipes, and oxygen sensors.
Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication to replace or repair exhaust components.Inspect exhaust systems for leaks, corrosion, and compliance with emissions regulations.Install aftermarket or performance exhaust systems as requested by customers.Wheel Bearings :Inspect, diagnose, and replace worn or damaged wheel bearings to ensure smooth and safe vehicle operation.
Use specialized tools to press bearings into hubs and verify proper alignment and functionality.Identify symptoms of bearing failure, such as grinding noises or wheel play, and recommend timely repairs.Drum Brakes :Perform maintenance and repairs on drum brake systems, including replacing brake shoes, springs, and hardware.
Adjust brake components to ensure proper contact and braking efficiency.Diagnose issues like brake fade, noise, or uneven braking and restore system performance.Tie Rods :Inspect and replace inner and outer tie rods to maintain proper steering alignment and control.
Diagnose symptoms of worn tie rods, such as steering wheel vibration or uneven tire wear.Perform alignments or collaborate with alignment specialists to ensure precise steering performance.Shocks and Struts :Diagnose and replace worn shocks and struts to improve vehicle ride quality and handling.
Inspect mounting hardware, bushings, and related suspension components for wear or damage.Test-drive vehicles to confirm proper suspension performance after repairs.Other Undercarriage Components :Service and repair additional undercarriage systems, including :
Ball Joints : Inspect and replace worn ball joints to maintain suspension integrity and steering precision.
Control Arms : Diagnose and replace damaged control arms to ensure proper wheel alignment and suspension function.CV Joints and Axles : Repair or replace constant velocity (CV) joints and axles to restore driveline performance.Sway Bars and Links : Inspect and replace sway bar links or bushings to improve vehicle stability.Perform routine undercarriage inspections to identify potential issues before they lead to major repairs.General Duties :Use diagnostic tools, such as OBD-II scanners, to identify exhaust and undercarriage-related issues.
Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety and environmental regulations.Communicate effectively with shop lead and / or service writer to explain repair needs and timelines.Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and techniques through training and certifications is strongly preferred.Qualifications :
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or ASE certification in automotive repair preferred.Minimum of 3 years of experience as an automotive technician, with a focus on exhaust systems and undercarriage repairs.Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mufflers, exhaust systems, wheel bearings, drum brakes, tie rods, shocks, struts, and other undercar components.Strong knowledge of automotive suspension, steering, and driveline systems.Experience with welding and fabrication for exhaust system repairs.Ability to use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools effectively.Valid driver’s license and ability to test-drive vehicles.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and customer service skills.Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Physical Requirements :
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces under vehicles.Comfortable standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.Tolerance for exposure to noise, fumes, and automotive chemicals with proper safety precautions.Work Environment :
Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week, with occasional opportunities for overtime.Work performed in a shop environment with exposure to automotive fluids, noise, and equipment.Opportunities for growth into specialized roles with additional training.Compensation :
