Evaluates residents, develops appropriate treatment goals and methods, implements the speech therapy treatment plan, and completes all related documentation and record keeping regarding these services; this includes application of therapeutic techniques in areas such as cognitive skills, communication, speech oral motor skills, dysphagia, perceptual abilities, orientation, psychosocial, and functioning;
Coordinates the acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instructs residents in their use;
Selects appropriate activities suited to the individual’s physical and mental capacity, intelligence level and interest;
Consults with other members of the rehabilitation team to select the most appropriate therapeutic regimen consistent with the needs and capabilities of each resident;
Instructs resident in the skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates resident progress, attitudes, and behavior, as related to rehabilitative potential;
Adapts program according to the needs of individual resident;
Attends and contributes to resident care, staffing and other related meetings;
Conducts training programs and participates in training medical, nursing and other personnel in speech therapy techniques and objectives;
Supervises supportive personnel in accordance with state and professional standards;
