Overview

ITW Electrostatics is a division of Illinois Tool Works (NYSE : ITW) and a leader in static control devices for equipment makers and end users. The Quality Manager, as a key member of the Electro Static Technology leadership team, reports to the Business Unit Manager and provides day-to-day Quality support. The role involves communicating process status, keeping team members informed, and responding clearly to customer inquiries while maintaining relationships across the organization. The position is onsite full time in Mechanic Falls, Maine.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional project teams to implement continuous improvement activities.
  • Deliver practical, hands-on training to company personnel at all levels in ITW toolbox and continuous improvement concepts, tools, and methods.
  • Lead continuous improvement project steering committees. Work with project leaders to communicate project scope, status, and results to Business Unit Manager. Identify and escalate project roadblocks, as necessary.
  • Ensure sustained improvement by creating documents, such as work instructions, process maps and standard work documents.
  • Directly involved in supporting process improvements and changes by providing technical support in process evaluations, time studies, layout designs, etc.
  • Apply a structured problem-solving mechanism, such as 8D or 5-Why analysis to business problems, driving to root causes and ensuring corrective actions are robust.
  • Interface with continuous improvement engineers at other ITW locations to share best practices and coordinate project efforts.
  • Must be able to work effectively with and communicate well with employees at all levels of the company.
  • Support all released products and manage product design changes for the entire product life cycle (from launch through obsolescence).
  • Assign resources to engineering projects and develop a system to evaluate the priority of projects.
  • Ensure that new designs meet acceptable Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Testability (DFT), and Assembly (DFA) through close engagement with new product development teams.
  • Manage pilot builds and provide feedback to the design teams to improve quality and reliability of new products.
  • Establish and maintain the factory production layout using lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve production documentation, manufacturing equipment, and product testing methodology.
  • Support the customer escalation process to ensure issues are resolved effectively and timely.
  • Ability to work with the supply chain team in a fast-paced environment to take necessary actions based on EOL notifications and components availability.
  • Process-driven with the ability to create and modify critical business processes to meet changing business needs.
  • Lead continuous improvement activities focusing on safety, quality, cost reduction, and efficiency.
  • A customer-centric mindset with the ability to understand internal and external customer needs.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of setting high goals for teams.
  • Strong coaching ability to hire, develop and retain a diverse pipeline of talent.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Business Unit Manager.

  • Ensure ITW Toolbox and 80 / 20 culture is embedded within the team.
  • Identify, lead and develop talent to maximize effectiveness, including onboarding, communication, goal alignment, coaching and performance management.
  • Use personal influence skills to persuade others and gain support.
  • Champion change management principles to plan, implement and evaluate change.
  • Build a strong talent pipeline to ensure a diverse, high-performing organization.
  • Coach through feedback, development planning and performance management.
  • Lead change management to build organizational capability to sell solutions using a consultative approach.
  • Identify, develop and monitor development plans for direct reports and high-potential leaders.
  • Job Requirements

  • BS / BA degree in Engineering or related field; MBA is a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience in Engineering, Continuous Improvement & Quality; automotive experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to act as a business partner / advisor to the Business Unit Manager with strong influence and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, translating KPIs into improvement actions and reducing costs or increasing revenue.
  • Ability to partner with leadership and influence strategic initiatives.
  • Ability to remain objective as a guardian of good business practices and controls while managing risks inherent in growth initiatives.
  • Strong IT skills and customer-centric mindset.
  • Ability to shift priorities and timelines through analytical problem-solving capabilities.
