Hannaford Supermarkets, which began as a fresh produce vendor in Portland, Maine in 1883, is still connected to its early roots as a local market. The company actively seeks out farmers and producers to join its Local program, celebrating local foods, farmland, traditions, and jobs. The connection to the source of fresh foods is central to the company's business operations, making it the first major supermarket in the United States to document that all its seafood products were sustainably harvested.
The management trainee program is designed to equip future managers with the skills and knowledge necessary to be effective in this position. The program includes responsibilities for the overall operation of the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager, supporting store operations to meet financial and sales goals, building associate and customer relations, and promoting a strong culture in support of Hannaford's strategy. The program also emphasizes maintaining solid communications with the management team, all associates in the store, and throughout the organization.
Qualifications include a college degree or retail management work experience, a strong understanding of store operations, effective interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to lead and manage a team, and the ability to use technical information to solve problems. The position requires the ability and availability to work a schedule that meets business needs and must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or a similar accrediting organization as a "Certified Food Safety Manager." Physical requirements include lifting up to 20 lbs. regularly, standing or walking 100% of the time, and handling a variety of substances associated with cleaning materials, packaging materials, and food products.
Preferred requirements include managing assigned staff, hiring, training, and developing associates, communicating company and departmental policies, treating all associates with fairness, dignity, and respect, providing recognition of accomplishments, and offering constructive counseling when necessary. The position also requires a complete understanding of the causes and means for resolving inventory shrink issues, compliance with company security, safety, and food safety standards, and the use of company tools such as MPP, financial reports, scheduling, ordering, and business information systems.
Salary range is between $45,240 - $65,728 Annual.
