Pay Rate / Range : The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $88,000 to $98,000 / year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $88,000 to $161,600 / year.

Brief Summary of Job Duties :
This role, available as a Compensation Analyst 3 (Experienced Level) or Compensation Analyst 4 (Advanced Level) is for a human resources professional specializing in compensation. The individual will provide comprehensive analytical support for a high volume of compensation services, classification and job evaluations, HR-related systems and processes, union wage implementations, campus policies and programs, and training. Key responsibilities include resolving complex compensation issues, providing policy guidance and developing solutions for HR / compensation challenges. The position also involves contributing to the development of new HR programs, policies and procedures.
The Compensation Analyst 4 (Advanced Level) will perform all duties with greater in-depth knowledge, independence, and the authority to lead projects and handle the most complex situations.
Note : Only one position is available, and the level will be determined based on the final candidate's skills, knowledge and experience.
Compensation Analyst 3 (Experienced Level)
Qualifications : Bachelor's Degree in a related field (or equivalent), 4-6 years of HR experience, and 1-3 years of progressive analytical experience in policy analysis, training, advising, and data analysis.
Skills : Strong understanding of compensation concepts, ability to apply compensation policies and labor laws, effective problem-solving, program development, managing high-volume casework, prioritization, proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite (especially Excel and Google Sheets), data analysis (databases, query tools, advanced spreadsheets, reporting), strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently, and presentation skills.
Compensation Analyst 4 (Advanced Level)
Qualifications : Bachelor's Degree in a related field (or equivalent), 4-6 years of progressive analytical experience in policy analysis, training, advising, data gathering, data analysis, and leading projects / programs. Also requires 4-6 years of background in HR and / or compensation and classification.
Skills : All Compensation Analyst 3 skills at an advanced and independent level, plus comprehensive knowledge of compensation and job evaluation theories, expert capability in position classification, advanced ability to interpret labor laws and policies, advanced analytical skills for presenting findings, thorough knowledge of salary survey methodologies, experience in designing and delivering compensation training, successful consultation with senior management on complex matters, highly effective communication with diverse audiences, advanced listening and understanding skills, advanced prioritization, problem-solving, leadership, influence, and interpersonal / collaboration skills.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time :
55% Classification and Compensation
Compensation Analyst 3 : Provides comprehensive compensation and classification services, including job evaluations, FLSA status determination, and guidance on staffing issues. Conducts market and data analysis for pay equity, recommends solutions for complex compensation problems, and may participate in compensation surveys. Offers backup coverage during staffing shortages.
Compensation Analyst 4 : Performs all Compensation Analyst 3 duties with advanced knowledge, greater independence, and the ability to lead projects and handle complex situations.
10% Policies, Procedures, and Best Practices
Compensation Analyst 3 : Analyzes and interprets campus personnel policies and procedures, serving as a resource for colleagues and managers. Assists in policy development and communication, monitors external regulations, and conducts post-implementation analysis.
Compensation Analyst 4 : Performs all Compensation Analyst 3 duties with advanced knowledge, greater independence, and the ability to lead projects and handle complex situations.
10% Data Analysis and Special Projects
Compensation Analyst 3 : Supports the Director of Total Compensation with data summaries and costing analyses. Conducts research using various campus systems (FinHub, UCPath, Cognos, Power BI) for projects related to collective bargaining, policy changes, and ad-hoc reporting.
Compensation Analyst 4 : Performs all Compensation Analyst 3 duties with advanced knowledge, greater independence, and the ability to lead projects and handle complex situations.
10% HR Programs and Initiatives
Compensation Analyst 3 : Contributes to HR programs (e.g., Equity, Career Tracks, UCPath, ServiceNow, Power BI) by assisting with planning, design, implementation, and evaluation. Serves as a subject matter expert for HR systems and compensation-related matters.
Compensation Analyst 4 : Performs all Compensation Analyst 3 duties with advanced knowledge, greater independence, and the ability to lead projects and handle complex situations.
10% CBU and Other Wage Programs
Compensation Analyst 3 : Manages compensation and classification activities related to bargaining units, including information requests, costing analysis, wage proposals and implementation of negotiated wage increases. Conducts market analysis, prepares costing scenarios, and assists with campus-wide wage and merit programs.
Compensation Analyst 4 : Performs all Compensation Analyst 3 duties with advanced knowledge, greater independence, and the ability to lead projects and handle complex situations.
5% Training and Communications
Compensation Analyst 3 : Assists in designing and delivering in-person and Zoom-based training programs on topics like Compensation and Classification, Job Builder, Power BI, employee relations codes, FLSA, etc. Contributes to maintaining the Compensation Unit web pages and developing communication tools.
Compensation Analyst 4 : Performs all Compensation Analyst 3 duties with advanced knowledge, greater independence, and the ability to lead projects and handle complex situations
