Description :
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound utilizing high-frequency sound waves.
The technologist assists medical personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities.
This role includes performing procedures according to departmental formats and completing exams in allotted time.
Daily clerical duties involve the use of electronic health record systems, patient scheduling, and other computer systems.
Portable ultrasound exams are also performed as needed.
The technologist conducts complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound, detecting abnormalities such as masses, abscesses, and stones.
Assistance to physicians with biopsy deep abdominal studies and color-flow ultrasound is required.
Preparation and setup of medical supplies, instruments, and equipment is a key responsibility.
Patients are prepared for diagnostic procedures; the technologist explains procedures and positions patients for each anatomical view.
Technical quality of images must be evaluated, and images related to pathogenic conditions are obtained and processed.
Records of ultrasound exams are maintained, including archiving and de-archiving data as required.
Routine maintenance, calibration, cleaning, and sterilization of equipment is necessary for proper functioning.
Supplies must be stocked and replenished as required.
Technical assistance and instruction may be provided to students, employees, and medical residents.
Physical demands include lifting a minimum of 25 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hours a day.
Greeting patients upon arrival for exams using proper communication standards is also essential.
Scheduled shifts may include holidays and weekends as part of a team rotation.
Adhering to attendance and punctuality policies is required.
Specific care needs of the patient population served must be identified and addressed appropriately.
Communication with patients, parents, and caregivers should be tailored to their needs, including age and literacy.
Standards identified in organizational competencies must be followed.
