Position Description

Performs manual work involving the cleaning and care of buildings. Individuals in this position are expected to know and follow accepted custodial procedures associated with their job, to develop some understanding of other related jobs in the organization, and possibly act as lead worker in a group of custodians. Responsibility for the application of accepted cleaning methods and materials in the custodial maintenance of apartments, lounges, offices, bathrooms, classrooms, and other areas requiring continuous physical activity. Work is performed under general supervision and evaluated for conformance to established practices and standards. Performs related duties as required

Major / Essential Functions

Cleans and vacuums carpets and rugs. Moves furniture for cleaning purposes cleans and dusts furniture, walls, ceilings, windows, windowsills, woodwork, and other building surfaces. Cleans and sanitizes rest rooms, baths, commodes, urinals. lavatories, drinking fountains, and other fixtures..Empty trash cans and replace liners, clean receptacles as needed. Maintain janitorial equipment and areas in a clean, safe, organized and operable condition.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to perform general custodial tasks including vacuuming, sweeping, general cleaning, sanitizing, finishing hardwood floors, carpet cleaning, etc.

Required Qualifications

Requires two years experience in building custodial and maintenance work.
