About The Position

Experience : Minimum of 1.5 years of general nursing experience; first-time travelers must have 2+ years of experience.

License : Registered Nurse (RN)

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Must-Have :

Completion of a nursing education program approved by the board of nursing.

Experience with step-down level care for post-cardiac / vascular patients, including post-cardiac cath and post-open heart surgery.

Strong understanding of cardiac procedural recovery, pharmacology, titratable cardiac and vasoactive medications, and cardiac rhythm interpretation.

Description :

This is a mixed acuity unit that includes Intermediate Care as well as Telemetry and Med Surg.

The patient population includes direct admits, ED admits, and patients post-cath lab procedures.

Patients may present with conditions such as MI, NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, and dysrhythmias.

Experience with managing epicardial pacers and IABPs (which would go to ICU) is also preferred.

Patient ratios are typically 1 : 4, with a possibility of 1 : 3 based on acuity.

CNA support is available with a ratio of 1 : 5-8, depending on the shift.

Charge nurse support is available, although not assigned.

Phlebotomy services are accessible for peripheral blood draws.

A resource nurse is available occasionally, and hospitalists are present 24 / 7, though not dedicated to the unit.

The charting system used is Epic.

Familiarity with Epic is preferred, and manager approval is needed for travelers without this experience.

Resource nurses may float primarily to the sister unit, but floating to medical-surgical, telemetry, or ICU is also possible within the scope of practice.

Weekend rotation is required every other week, and there is no on-call requirement.

Holiday expectations include working every other holiday, with limited time off available during specific periods.
