Crisis Clinician, Licensed

A crisis clinicians role is to provide care and immediate mental health services to anyone who calls. Their primary function is to assess and triage individuals who present with any type of mental health crisis as defined by the caller. The role of the clinician will be to ensure continuity of care : an immediate and professional intake or evaluation, collaboration with proper agencies, referral to appropriate type and level of service, and advocacy for any treatment deemed necessary beyond the initial crisis.

• Duties and Responsibilities :
• Provides coverage for two 24-hour or four 12-hour on-call shifts every week
• Unless otherwise required by the crisis program director or a crisis supervisor, clinicians work from an AHC office, from 10am-3pm, during one of the weekly Monday - Friday shifts. The other shift may be covered from a remote location, so long as the clinician is within AHCs service footprint, from Aspen to Parachute.
• Answers calls and provides appropriate information and referral to the caller.
• Available for on-site evaluation at the start of shift with a response time of 30-60 minutes
• Assesses nature of the call and initiates appropriate response, intervention and level of service
• Manages a 911 crisis scene when requested by first responders : to include grief support, navigating medics, officers, investigators, coroner and more, and keeping community members in the loop of what is happening and helping them to cope
• When on scene, clinician will provide immediate crisis intervention services including suicide risk assessment, mental status exam, and assessment of any other psychological and physical needs
• Collaborates with family or other appropriate persons, relevant to the situation at hand
• Staff dispatches, calls, and cases with the designated licensed clinician on call, crisis supervisor, or crisis program director
• Obtains proper paperwork and maintains strict adherence to confidentiality
• Determines type and level of care for the individual assessed and documents accordingly
• Contacts other agencies (EMS, law enforcement, etc.) when necessary
• Initiates emergency mental health for involuntary treatment only when necessary
• Provides individual served (and / or their family) with necessary written information for follow up, education, and consents that may be done with the agency or therapist receiving the individual for treatment
• Establishes and maintains strong interagency relationships, to include first response agencies, local mental health professionals, human service agencies and psychiatric facilities throughout the state.
• Participates in passdown each morning coming on or off shift and communicates all shift activity verbally to the clinician taking over during shift change
• Completes all clinical documentation for shift activity and enters into the EHR system prior to ending a shift. If a shift spans more than 24 hours, documentation for the day must be completed before the next business day
• Manages Google Calendar and AHC Gmail account, including scheduling meetings and responding to calendar invites and emails promptly during shifts
• Completes additional tasks as assigned by the Crisis Program Director or Crisis Supervisor

Meetings, Supervision, Workshops

• Attends regular crisis staff meetings (2x per month) with the crisis / clinical director. (Meetings are recorded and may be watched on the next scheduled shift)
• Participates in supervision with a crisis supervisor 2x per month
• Morbidity and Mortality case presentation during a crisis staff meeting or group supervision is encouraged but not required
• Completes three off-shift ride-alongs determined in collaboration with their supervisor
• Represents AHC at two community / in-house events each calendar year, determined in collaboration with their supervisor
• Participates in four AHC workshops annually
• Service on one AHC committee is encouraged
• Completes AHCs annual Crisis Clinician training plan and other required training based on program needs and availability
• Acknowledges and adheres to all policies and procedures of Aspen Hope Center
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
• Knowledge of DSM 5 diagnoses and symptoms
• Knowledge of local and agency resources for referrals
• Skilled at assessing level of suicidality in individuals who present for help
• Skilled at working with various types of individuals and knowing how to approach each one
• Skilled in basic computer operations
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision
• Ability to maintain boundaries with individuals served, practitioners, agencies and community members
• Ability to uphold confidentiality at all times and when sharing information with those who have signed releases, ability to use the minimum necessary rule is imperative
• Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and structure in any given situation
• Ability to maintain communication with clinical team on a daily basis
• Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems
• English / Spanish bilingual abilities preferred
• Credentials and Experience :
• Masters degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field
• Colorado state license or provisional license as LCSW, LMFT, LPC, LAC
• Completion of the Colorado Behavioral Health Administrations Crisis Professional Curriculum within 30 days of start date
• Experience in a mental health setting or crisis intervention
• Experience in crisis role or proficiency in trauma and suicide assessments
• Experience in case management and crisis planning
• Upon hire, clinicians are classified as Crisis Clinician I, II, III, or IV based on licensure and experience. Pay is commensurate with experience and licensure._

• A full-time Aspen Hope Center crisis clinician is salaried for 48 hours on call each week whereby they take calls, provide assessments, triage individuals served, follow up with previous individuals served and conduct any other business required. This time is deemed equivalent to 40 hours of full-time office work.
