Job Description and Duties

Transportation Engineering Technician can be tasked in several engineering functions in the region. Based on annual workload and seasonal needs, the incumbent may be assigned by Caltrans to a variety of positions in an office or field environment.

Working in North Region (NR) Construction, the incumbent TET is permanently assigned to NR Construction, and will be under the direct supervision of a NR Construction, Senior Transportation Engineer, and may receive direction from a Resident Engineer (Lead Worker). Travel to project sites will be required. Possession of a valid California Drivers License is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineering Technician exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and / or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

Position located at 5065 Boyd Rd Ste H, Arcata, CA 95521, Humboldt County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. At times, employee will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. At other times employee will be exposed to dirt, noises, asphalt, solvents, and other materials when working in the field. Field trips will require walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, short periods of exposure to heat or cold, and working around live traffic and heavy equipment. Some night work will occasionally be necessary and the work shift may vary depending on workload. Periodic overtime work and out-of-town overnight travel may be required. Travel may require the use of State-supplied vehicles that vary in size.
