Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) night shift position requiring a WI or compact RN license and PICU experience.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with 8 beds and an average census of 4 to 5 patientsPatients include those with respiratory issues, DKA, trauma, surgical, neurological conditions (seizure), overdose, and suicide casesNurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 1 or 1 : 2 depending on patient acuityUse of ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, NAVA, Vapotherm, and Heliox respiratory equipmentRNs run and titrate cardiac, insulin, heparin, and sedation dripsRNs read and interpret their own cardiac strips; no dedicated tele / monitor techs12-hour night shifts with self-scheduling in a tiered approach; weekends and holidays required on an every-other basisRNs may be floated to the NICU (if experienced) and may observe in adult areas depending on censusCharting is completed in Cerner, with a transition to Epic plannedRole includes titrating cardiac, insulin, heparin, and sedation infusions, and drawing labsNo nurse aides on the unit; charge nurses take assignments when appropriateIntensivist not in-house but available within 10 minutes, with residents onsite 24 / 7Standard orientation includes 1 day hospital-wide and 2 days unit-specificClean and professional pediatric-appropriate attire requiredFirst-time travelers and traveler duos are welcome to apply, though duo members will not have the same scheduleNo block scheduling permittedHoliday coverage required on an every-other basisRequirements
Active WI or compact RN license required by start dateAt least 1 year of PICU experience requiredCurrent BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications requiredExperience caring for intubated patients, running drips, sedation, ICPs, EVDs, and emergency situations requiredMust be able to independently draw labsAbility to read and interpret cardiac strips requiredTwo professional references required : one supervisor reference within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference within the last 3 yearsLocal candidates within 80 miles considered at a reduced rateFormer employees must have ended employment at least 6 months prior and require approval for considerationBenefits
